    Default Series II

Guys (and gals) I have come across a Series 2 SWB pick up. 2.25 petrol for sale.

Looks in good nick from pics.

Reasonable price for this car? Owner wants me to make an offer.

Buying purely as collectors item and for driving on the farm every now and then. Will probably do a complete restore on it at some stage.Click image for larger version.

Shorty Series 2's are scarce, even more so when original and unmolested and licenced.

I'd say he can easily ask for R50k down here.

And don't restore: patina is EVERYTHING.

Be cheeky and offer him R35k. If he doesn't punch you immediately, you'll probably get it for R40k.

    - rear crossmember has been patched, probably due to a botched towbar that had no spreaderplate on the back and it tore through
    - chassis is crusty but mostly intact
    - I see it is dribbling oil, probably the rear seal on the transfer case as usual

I'd say fairly neat for nearly 60 years of age...........

Looks like he tried to bleed the brakes and brake fluid on inside of tyres.

Anything less than R45k is 'n steal for that. Some TLC and it'll sell for R70k odd around here.

exactly, although I think R70k is getting a touch silly, but people will buy what they want

Id say anything under R50 would be a bargain. These SWB's are demanding high prices lately. With a few fixes that in RSA would fetch somewhere in the 80's.

Take a tip from the old SA Railways tapiologist handbook - tap the rusty cross-member and chassis spots with a carpenter's ball-and-peen hammer, you'll soon find out which sections are rusted through. The rusty bits will give a dull sound or go right through, the solid bits will give a nice thunk noise.

Even R70k would be a bargain.

Slightly more restored (get the paint of all the parts that needs to be galvanized etc...) and youíll get closer to R100k

    Alright...

So its been spray painted in that colour Skylark....

The radiator Welch plug leaked and has been fixed with an old steel drum cap according to owner as the new plug would not fit.

Engine did not overheat according to the current owner (taking this with a pinch of salt) as he felt things getting hot and when he checked radiator he saw it was empty and found the leak. Jammed the gap with a piece of whittled wood until the steel cap fix as the thread was stripped.

The car is 900km from me so will be bought without me seeing it and driving it. Car will be delivered by truck to me.

I've done this sort of transaction before so will only transfer cash once I have the car and all checks out. Otherwise the truck will return with the car.

The asking price is 35k. Thoughts?

At R35k it is a STEAL!

Like I said, I have first hand experience of simmilar condition vehicles being sold for R90k plus.

Retored they are worth well over R100k
