    Default New Jeep Owner

    Hi,

Well I'm now new to the 4x4 world, just purchsed a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8 Limited. LOVIN' this Jeep - did a trip to Beaufort West on the weekend, there and back on Saturday, and I've never been so comfortable driving any car. And I averaged 14.8L/100km, which I think is not bad for a 4.7L V8.

Are there any clubs/meets happening for the WJ's (which I believe is the correct code)?

I am looking for a cargo cover - the cover you use to pull over anything in the rear of the Jeep, so that no one gets the idea to break in and steal something. I spoke to Jeep and they said it'll cost me R7500 new - at that price, they can keep it.

I'm also looking for the roof rack bars that clip into the racks on the roof of the Jeep. Does anyone know where I could get good second hand Jeep parts & spares like this in Cape Town.

And then is AutoMax the place to take my Jeep to, as I'm based in Durbanville. Any other places?

Great to be here - looking forward to kitting out my Jeep for the true offroad experience.

    Steve.

If you going to be nitpicking about petrol, you shouldn't drive a Jeep right?

Anyone ever dealt with Gomad 4x4 Engineering? They have a front & rear bumper I'm keen to put on the Jeep. I'm looking for a swing arm for the spare type, so that I can install a long range fuel tank - you know, with the average fuel consumption. I'm also looking for a fridge, and plan to install OME kit, along with some off road terrain tyres.

Any thoughts on which tyres are the better ones - or the ones most prefered? I've looked at the BFG's. Would I be able to fit those to the standard rim that comes with the Jeep, or would it be best to get the rims & tyres as a set?

Thanks WHH - I've also found a place in JHB that custom make the cargo covers for most vehicles at less than Jeep want to charge. Was hoping someone would have the cargo cover and roof rack bars lying about.

I see you get some serious roof racks - can the Jeeps take the tented roof rack? Or would that be something that would have to be made up for the Jeep?

Sorry for all the questions - I'm still new at this.

    Steve.

    Wellcome again!

You should check the forum for a gettogether some time. I can recommend Anton as well.

Did you drive 60km/h to achieve that consumption?

    Well done any way.

    See you soon!

You cannot go wrong with them; you will have to look on what weight your vehicle can handle on the roof for the tent.

CamoMo, yet another WJ has registered yesterday! That is the white WJ that went with us on our Sunday drive to Dirt & Dust. (See Charlatan's YouTube Vids) You can contact Paul L on the forum. He stays in Richwood. His is the 2.7L Diesel, but I'm sure between you, Basjan an Paul L there would be a lot of information flying around!
There is a meeting planned at Krige's Pub near Tyger Valley on 17th March @ 17:00!

Gomad seem to be alright, I have been to speak with them a few times about bumpers etc, the nice thing is that they are willing to do pretty much any custom work you want.
I know that Biggles bought his bumpers from them.
Re the tyres, the Wrangler MTR is a very good tyre as well as the Cooper STT.
With rim size, I prefer the 15" rim, its a better rim size for true offroading, and generaly the 15" tyres are easier to find and better priced.
