Default Kruger/Malelane to Sodwana via Pongola

    Evening all

We have a little road trip in the planning stages for mid-April.

    Route as follows;

JHB to Sabie Park 4 nights.

Sabie Park into Kruger 1 night.

    Exit Kruger Malelane Gate.

1 night in Swazi en-route to Pongola to meet mates to start the next leg of our holiday.

    Pongola to Sodwana.

JHB - Sabie Park and Pongola - Sodwana are the easy bits.

What is the best route from Malelane via Swazi to Pongola??

Would also appreciate some accommodation recommendations!!

Will be in a Grand Cherokee so not too concerned with gravel travel.

Look forward to your advise and comments

    Thanks in advance!!

    Cheers

There are a number of border posts into Swaziland, where are you going in Swaziland or do you intend bombing straight through? The closest border post into Swaziland from Malelane is Jeppe's Reef.

Your best exit point from Swaziland would be Lavumisa/Golela which brings you out on the N2 about 30k's east of Pongola

I havent been into the northern part of Swaziland, so was thinking of heading in at Jeppes Reef or maybe Bulembu, but open to suggestions, and possibly accommodation south/south east of Mbabane...

Plan is to exit at Lavumisa

Jeppe's Reef would be the easiest. Bulembu is a nice scenic route, but it would mean back tracking to Barberton and then up to Bulembu.

The whole Ezulweni Valley is packed with accommodation places, but you might want to push further south past Manzini. Mkhaya Game Reserve might be a good place to stop

Just remember that travelling in Swaziland can be quite slow going, simply because every little town/village you pass through has speed humps that brings your average speed way down. However if you get through the border nice and early, you can make Nisela by 12:00 and spend some time game viewing in the afternoon

Thanks Tony, Im aware of the travel time constraints, have spent a bit of time in SD, bombing around, but mainly for business unfortunately, very little play
