    Default Richtersveld route

Has anyone recently travelled the dirt road from Alex bay to Sendelingsdrift. Going there in two weeks time and my travel companion will be in a new 2019 Touareg with 285x45x20 tires.
I am worried about tire damage if the road is as bad as people say it is.
    Was it graded recently .

I am OK in my Cruiser.

Not bad at all. Just deflate to 1.5 and all should be fine.

If that is a 20 inch rim, you do not have a lot a tyre to deflate, the bigger rimmed tyres run a bigger risk of snake bite type cuts on the sidewall at lower pressures. Those cuts are almost always impossible to repair, so take an extra spare. And take it slow.

Agreed. Take it slowly. And don't be intimidated by the locals in their buses and bakkies speeding past you!

Done that road mid December 2018. Will not attempt it with a 45 profile tyre. Load?

Also keep in mind that Toaureg does not have a decent rugged spare wheel. Once you loose a tire it will be a trip down the drain.

Thanks very much for the info. The Touareg will be going to Sendelingdrift via Aussenkehr in Namibia. Noordoewer along Orange river and over the ferry back to Richtersveld.
I think this is the only way.
We have two full spare tyres but will have to get them on the rim if [email protected] happens. The Touareg spare is a joke.
    wish us luck
