Good day All
What I have: Garmin 276CX, mounted to a RAM ball with suction cup to the screen
Problem: As many of you would have faced as well, the GPS (in my case the HEAVY Garmin 276CX) bounces around on the windscreen when doing anything off the tar...
Possible Solutions?: Do you have any solutions to make it more sturdy?
- I've heard the Garmin mount is also flimsy which enables voice prompt
- The Ram mount is the ball, as mentioned which goes to the suction cup (I use the same ball on my adventure bike)
Any other mounts one can advise one? Help? Please?

Not sure of the vehicle, but what bout the air vent mounts?

Get the marine mount/cradle and mount it place of the rear view mirror.
I did it with my 276C

Look at railblaza they have some great holders you can get them from boating or tackle shops
Use ball of prestic to imobilise the unit. It does not look pretty, but it works !

RAM mount (with suction to windscreen) is the best. I have been using it on really bad tracks in the Southern DRC - hasn't failed me yet.
Yes, the screen does jump a little, but that is really negligible. And the screen may also rotate in the ball joint - jus loosen it and set it right.
I also use the RAM mount. Use the shortest arm. In my Disco, I have a longer arm, and there was movement. I now mount it low on the windscreen, resting the cradle on the dash. No more movement.
I'm installing RAM tracks in the camper, bolting them to the dash. The GPS cradle will slot in directly above it. Hopefully there will not be much movement.

I also fought this fight for a while, using a short RAM arm, which ended up pretty much resting on the dash, and started to chafe a little on the plastic above the clock on my LC 79 and bounced up and down a lot.
I eventually tried the Garmin suction mount (https://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-A...6Cx-P2753.aspx) and in spite of warnings of flimsiness, and it works fine for us. Every once in a while the suction cup comes off the window, but after resetting it seems to be good for quite a while. I like that it is smaller/more low profile than my previous RAM arm.
I do want to hardwire mine, as I don't like the cord flopping around and getting tangled on the gear lever, and I don't like that it occupies my cigarette plug all the time.
I like the idea of the marine mount where the rear view mirror goes. That would be slick. Has anyone ever been given a hard time by police for removing the rear view mirror? We have a canopy, so it doesn't do us any good, but I can easily see getting cited at a road block "you must have a rear view mirror.." or something like that.
Have never had any issues at roadstops her,e Zim, Bots, Nam, Swazi or Moz.
I can't see through my canopy either.
Nor can a truck or goods delivery vehicle.
Side mirrors is sufficient.
I also hardwired mine , it's at a very convenient height, both for looking at and adjusting routes or finding whatever.

The 276 is a heavy gps. In both my defenders I had marine mounts and they still vibrate on corrugated roads. If you don’t want it to move, prestic it. Try it. You have nothing to loose ......

This is what my current setup looks like. Garmin bean bag on top of dash directly in front of me. Lump of prestic keeps it firmly in place

From the fuse block under the steering column, up the left hand pillar cover, under the roof liner.
