Post Landcruiser 76 Station Wagon - need 3 seats, not 5...

    Hey folks,

I have a LC 76 SW (2010 model). Space in the rear is painfully small as everyone knows. We are a family of 3, and I have been eyeing out the 'rest' of the back seat as possible extra space. What I'd like to do is take out the entire back seat and simply replace with a single seat for our daughter. I cannot seam to find any standard single LC seat to solve the problem, it would appear that all factory built seats are of the bench variety. Before I employ the hacksaw and sewing needle, does anyone have any ideas as to how I might solve this?

    Good idea!

I agree about the lack of rear packing space in the 76 series Land Cruiser. We removed our entire rear seat and inserted a large drawer and packing framework that gives us plenty of easily accessed packing space.

However when touring further north in Africa there are a number of places where a guide or guard is compulsory and here we struggled a little with 3 in front. Often guides can add great value to an outing even if not compulsory and we regetted not retaining a small seating space in the rear to be utilized occasionally. I would speak to any knowledgeable vehicle repair shop, they should be able to source and mount a single seat for you or even modify the present seat.

    Thanks Stan,

I did read your excellent article regarding the replacement of the entire back seat
    https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...storage-system.

Am going to head off to my local LC body builders and mechanics to see what they can come up with, will post what solutions we find.

    Cheers

Thanks RPiet - Meano are a bit up the road from me (PMB), but if I come up with nothing here, then will give them a shout (they may even be able to just ship me the chair itself if they have a simple solution.

    Thanks Ismail,
I visited a local LC mech and they reckoned I am not going to win on this front - at least not in the simple bench seat out, single seat in. Primarily because there are only two lower seat fixtures at either end of the vehicle. My alternates were to use a Fortuner jump seat with a modified base plate bolted to the door column or possibly to chop the existing rear seat and add a leg to one side.

Am off to a company in Pinetown that body builds and modifies coaches and other small passenger vehicles and ambulances to see what they can do. (They modified a Mercedes Sprinter from scratch into a luxury tourist vehicle for my company recently and build their own seats according to spec)

why not simply buy a front seat from another car and fit that. Many has their own rails that can be unbolted.

I did this with our 4 door Jeep. I used a bucket seat. Its less tiring that a normal seat because it hold you in place.
O, in my 76 cruiser I did not like the factory front seats. Bought Discovery 3 seats. Very nice upgrade. The discovery’ back bench is of 2 parts. It might work for you. I did not have enough space due to the drawer system and the front seats.

or the rear single seat from a audi Q5 or Q7 . They have a 2 bench and 1 single that are both forward backward adjustable with it's own rails. can even fold down flat.
Dynamic auto in Wynberg has several Q7 wrecks.

I fitted a single seat. From a Pajero. Works a treat.
