    Default Defender TD5 Replacement Airbox

    Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has possibly gone down this road before me before I start from scratch. I am not happy with how my air-box seals as one of the clips has broken and one of the housing mounts has also snapped. Has anyone gone down the route of either making a more sturdy air-box that seals better or bought from a local manufacture who may already sell one.

I've attached something that I feel would be an ideal replacement. Also if there considerations I am not taking into account I would greatly appreciate the advice.

Did someone not try and fit a Donaldson filtration system in the TD5 before? Cannot remember if it was do-able.

Thanks, I will have a look into that.

I guess my concern would be how well the housing would fit in the place available if it were to change shape drastically, something I guess photos and experience would be able to tell.

I wonder if the 2.8i Donaldson setup will fit? Should flow enough air.

Ive seen the 2.8 filters fitted to td5’s. Think Walther from LRextreme has this set up.

So I gave Walther a call and his solution sounds perfect. Seems you can possibly buy a Donaldson Air Box that will work, the only challenge is you need the bracket that the 2.8i uses to hold the filter in place. So the challenge is finding a 2.8i owner who is willing to show off their rig to me so I can get some ideas.

If you have snorkel fitted at the moment, that might cause an issue?

Fortunately no snorkel fitted at the moment however its just the air box I want to replace the piping from there to the inlet I can at least seal up with a silicone or similar.

I have an air filter housing that takes the long tube type filter lying at home that I was given for another project but didn't use. I think it came off an Isuzu bakkie. If it will help you out you can have it. I'm in Edenvale.
