    Default Pilansberg

Planning to go to Pilansberg for the long weekend in March. Has anybody been there lately? I heard that Bakgatla is in a bad shaped and Manyane is not what it used to be. Please let me have your view?

I think it changes like the seasons, depending how many dronkgatte destroyed the bathrooms again. I was there 2018-09-14 and Bakgatla as clean as I have seen it. The campgrounds have not changed in years and probably looks the same and this is how I have remembered Bakgatla for the last 10 years. Swimming pool was nice and clean then at least.
The ablutions were actually very clean and definitely renovated. I always say Management need to keep it clean and campers need to keep it in tact.
I still like going and planning a trip in two weeks' time. Planning though.
Enjoy your trip. Game viewing is still great in Pilanesberg!

Have been to both campsites numerous times over this past year and found them to have improved in substantially from a few years back.

I was in Bakgatla a few months ago, and the ablutions were great.

We are regular visitors, but avoid long weekends and school holidays. The basic problem is that the number of visitors overwhelm the facilities.

We used to go there almost every month, and now we go up about twice a year. We prefer Bakgatla, as it has a bigger pool, and you don't have the noise from the nightclub, although you do get the odd camping group who decides to turn the camp site into a nightclub anyway. The camp sites and ablution facilities are bearable. We go there because its a great big 5 game reserve 170km from Johannesburg/Pretoria and have had some very special sightings in the park. To us, this makes camping with the average camp facilities worth while.

Thanks for the feedback. Booking made at Bakgatla but now Swambo want to change to Manyane. Her parents are going as well. They are in their 80's and the more level ground will make it easier for them to walk.

Go there (bakgatla) 3 x per year, as said, nothing changed. Pool sometimes spotless and other times green chemical spill. Usually camp against fence. Never regretted any weekend spent. 25% discount not reflected on the booking sites, so I never book.

I was there 3 weeks ago and it was great, grounds were clean and pool was in a good clean shape. As usual the game viewing was excellent. Bakgatla has vervet monkeys but Manyane has baboon so watch out they are much stronger than you. I would think twice about Manyane over a long weekend, the surrounding shebeens make a nuisance of themselves until the wee hours of the morning.

I was at Bakgatla this past weekend. The camp is looking the same as it did last year. Pool is crystal clear, veld is nice and green. Saw some monkeys running around, but also saw ratel, bush babies and bush buck in the camp. The park is looking great, lots of food around for the grazers and browsers. We were lucky enough to also watch a leopard whack a warthog, which was a first for us. Otherwise, love going to that park, always good.

Has any one else noticed, when you book through the web site, you get charged a higher price than just turning up without a booking. This has happened to me twice now.
