    Default Mossel Bay Camp Sites

Pops and I are planning a little get away, just the two of us in early Feb.

Many many years ago we camped ay the Point in Mossel Bay and thought it might be a good destination for this trip. (bit of nostalgia)

Any comments on the location these days? Is it still a nice place to camp?

Any other recommendations are welcome. Would like something near the sea preferably, or alternatively a river.

Point should be fine that time of the year, along with the "long term" campers. Had an interesting discussion with some of them a while back. Some have sold their houses and just do the camping thing all year long. Don't know what the cost is but according to them it becomes "dirt cheap" to make a "year" booking. Some of the tannies even have their sewing machines and make some clothing for an income as all utilities are inclusive.

    Sorry off the subject.
Go and enjoy the Point as it remains one of the more scenic camping spots.

The Point is good.Been going there since I was at school.
There are a lot of permanent campers there.Retired people who travel all over SA camping only. What is good is they are not allowed in the front row.
So for me it will be Point.

Whether it is De Bakke, Point, or ATKV - they are all clean, well managed and relatively safe.

It seems as if you are on a "relive the nostalgia" trip. For that, you have to return to Point.

    Otherwise it will be pointless.

Mid Feb will be fine for point, I am a local, and in my opinion thats the best time to visit Msb, the weather is the best of the whole year, warm not much wind and all the people are gone. Just phone ahead to confirm you can camp next to ocean as they close some of the park off to let the grass recover.
Try Dibiki also, very nice small camp site, has won numerous awards in the past. (Hartenbos side, next to river)

..Sure its scenic at the Point but Crime is quite rampant according to my Hartenbos Family ..Better at De Bikkie (Spelling) or nearby Glentana , Klein Brak etc ..We spent a night out of season once at ATKV but its a proper Oord ..not my scene really ..but close to family

Peter, Im not aware of the high crime rate there as the camp site is fenced off with some sort of security at the gates. But then again, these normal wire fences is no match for criminals, so I guess it is possible but I never heard of campers out of season complained about it. "Voetpad" might be in a better position to answer this as he is there and I am currently not.
