do they have hill hold? Possibly a binding brake shoe?
|
I am looking for some advice. I have a 2013 VW Amarok 4motion auto. Sometimes when i pull off the is a hard thud from the rear diff. I have replace the rear diff oil with OEM oil, this did not help. So i thought the problem may lie with the transfer case so i changed the transfer case oil but still the problem persists. What i have notice is that if when coming to a stop I pull up the hand brake, when pulling off the problem does not occur. The problem does not happen each time i pull off.
Any advice would be appreciated.

U-Joint
Could be the box dropping to first when pulling away (even if the MFD shows it's in first, it's often in second)
Try a gearbox reset
Ignition on but don't start the car
Throttle pedal flat to the floor and hold for 15 seconds
release throttle
ignition off
key out
Now go and test drive.

The U joints have been check. thnat was the first thing I check because it felt the same.
It doesn't have hill hold.
My gearbox always goes into 1st when coming to a stop. When you come to a stop the Torque convert disengages. You can see this happen when the you watch the fuel consumption drops from about 1.2l/hr to 0.8l/hr. Took it to ZF to check the gearbox and they are happy with it.
Will try the reset tomorrow. will let you know.
I think the amarok uses cv joints on the propshaft.

Nope - after a previous discussion I have specifically checked that and had to get a shaft repaired for an amarok. Definitely a U-joint - not a cv like the touareg.

I never removed the Propshaft. Just check the U joint for play. Will drop the propshaft and see.
also check the centre bearing for play / noise.

To check u-joints properly you must remove the prop shaft. Check the spline section and make sure it is sliding freely and greased. Also check the u-bolts on the axle. Make sure they are tight.
