    Default New Landrover workshop

I am just thinking about opening my own landrover workshop. As a trained and experienced mechanic and technical/workshop manager, experienced in working in the U.K. doing all repair on new and old Land Rovers. I have worked for both stealers and indy I am seriously thinking of starting a small good service workshop the kind that is honest and reliable with reasonable rates in Cape Town.
Need some input as to any feedback good or bad.

New year new start me thinks.

It also depends on where you are located, as CT already has some excellent indys around the Belville and Southern Suburbs areas. It will be very hard for a newcomer to compete with them.

Stellenbosch and Somerset West, on the other hand, have a extremely high number of landys for the area, and only two indys, one of which you must book at least a month in advance.

So possibly a gap in the market there?

Yes I think Southern suburbs is well covered and there are a couple of brothers there who do some really good work as well as a larger respected name there.
Not to sure on the Milnerton side there is one long established company left there now but they have always tried to rip me off by claiming I needed other work done that never needed doing,so I assume they do it to everyone which is NOT what I am about.
Yes Paarl area I have thought about and is on the possible list.
    Any other thoughts. much appreciated.

I reckon there is a gap for an indy in the city bowl/Woodstock area. Obviously rent would be an issue in such areas, but having lived around Rondebosch and Gardens for the last 6 years, it was always a real pain to try and get out to any of the indies in Bellville/Milnerton, even Tokai way, in anything less than an hour or two with the traffic... There are a huge amount of Landys around the city bowl as well and it would make a huge difference having someone actually in Cape Town to go to

That's a very valid point, that would make a centrally located workshop hugely attractive. Driving in/out of Ct to drop a vehicle at a distant workshop is a serious traffic headache, even more so if it's your only wheels.

And make sure you have the right diagnostics equipment to service/repair the newer models.

    Good luck!

Or maybe to save the op headaches he should limit the range that he will do work on other than basic services, that does depend what you are referring to as newer models.

OP what range of Landrover are you planning to work on?

Hawkey total is unlocked for all Landrover older models, except new Disco Sport and Velar. (still waiting for JLR to release software).

Unfortunately I have no idea, I'm sure someone else can help with that info. What does LR charge per hour in their Capetown dealerships?
