So decided to create a separate TReg rides thread, all my posts in one place:

Just joined the club. I bought the ex Panic / Big Pappa v8. Panic loaded it on Shosholoza Meyl on Sunday morning and she was unloaded this morning. Hasty few calls to Panic (thanks for answering my questions) Love it, and it is now parked in my semi complete new garage. More to follow. Have some plans for my new van.

Will be asking many questions, though.

ps: Big thanks to Panic and Nick for sorting it and making it all happen. I worry too much.....

Gave the TReg a wash and quick clean this morning, still have a way to go to get it to my liking. However it looks great for its age.

First mod: Blacked out some chrome on the grille:

Also, so far I have ordered and received replacement dash button sticker set (radio, aircon controls and so on) On the way, MFD replacement screen, current one sometimes fades when hot. Searching for wheel center cap as well.

also forgot to add:
a. Sourced a wheel cap from local China Town (dat reps!!)
b. my replacement red MFD arrived today, need to fit (Ordered 28th on Amazon, delivered by AGS this morning)
c. Located store who can supply key for Thule OEM racks.

Boxing Day update:
a. Wheel cap fitted.
b. Red MFD screen fitted today (see below)
c. Got replacement key for the racks (OEM Thule) Bridge Cycles (R70ea)

Red MFD screen replacement:
- well known on Mk4 Golf/Jetta platform, also on Mk1 TRegs. Did a interweb search, found:

- The problem:


Remove binnacle:

Removed binnacle:

Remove rear cover, be careful to unplug buzzer in the rear of binnacle cover
Remove metal cage arround LCD
New LCD

Test that new unit works before bolting everything together again. Success!!

All back together and looking good. Job done, about 1hr.

Did some more cosmetic stuff....
1. KTM'd the spot lights, using some perspex:


2. The Silver roof racks were looking a bit tatty, so gave them a quick PlastiDip..... Makes the world of difference.



Next is the pesky micro switches in the front doors that 1. does not work, and 2. intermittent (causing alarm to trigger, when it seems as if door is opened, but is not)

Did the doorlocks on my FIL's Touareg last year.
There is a usefull thread on the forum regarding doorlock removal and repair.

Depends on what I find. One of mine seems to be intermittant, so hoping a clean will sort it. The other seems dead, so might have to see if I can source somewhere (if a clean and fiddle does not sort it)

I have never found a switch to fail in any of the VW models.
They usually need a good cleaning with electrical cleaner. Even brake cleaner would do.
The main problem is dry solder joints.
Re-flow all solder points with actual solder and then reassemble.
Plug the lock back in the harness and test all the functions before installing it again. Manuall close the locking jaw with a screwdriver. Then test all the settings.

Yip, this was quite common with the Mk4 Jetta's and Golfs when I had one.

I actually took it out for that car. Then it worked fine for a long time and considering the amount of work to get the bastard out I simply left it. The instructions to strip a front door has more pages than to take an engine out.

Lol OK, thanks. I have seen some other threads on the DIY..... so just wanted more info (can never have enough)
