    Default Ammo box compartment

So Im busy with a setup on my Colt double cab. Not as nice as a drawer setup, but get to use the maximum available space for 6 ammo boxes. The frame will get 6mm ply wood on top, to create a nice big area for the kids to sleep on two diy canvas matrasses inside the load bin, while the wife and I sleep on top in the roof top tent. There will also be two compartments on the sides next to the ammo boxes, of which one will in the future serve as the dual battery storage and there will also be another compartment at the back of the ammo boxes. Frame is done, next is the wood. Will update as I go on.

Just make sure a DC battery will fit into an ammo box, heightwise.

There wont be a battery in an ammo box,it will sit on the side of the boxes,in one of the pix you can just see a battery on the side, but thanx for the heads up

They do squeeze in, although I use a high lid then there's ample space. Click image for larger version.

It seems the boxes sit flat on the loadbay, how will you reach or move the furthest ones when the wood is ontop?

There will be an anchor point for a webbing belt, fixed to the bin at the front of the second box, then run around the last two boxes and all the way to the front through a loop,so when you pull the weebing belt, the boxes come out. At least, thats the idea

    Very clever idea, good thinking.
Simple but effective, nothing to break and disappoint you when you need it the most.

    Interesting idea.

I worry the bottom surface friction might be too much for the webbing belt idea.

Perhaps try loading the boxes with weight now, and seeing if that works before topping it.

Else you might need to put some polymer/plastic strips down to give the boxes something to run on.

    Good luck on your build.

My friend did the same, but the rubberizing on the loadbin caused quite a bit of friction. He eventually added angle iron under the boxes which acts as tracks and having much less friction.

I used alu angle in my off road trailer and the amo boxes are sliding nicely on this.

This is my slider system. 6 x ammo boxes. Also space behind frame to slot in 50 liter ultra thin upright water tank attached to the box body.Click image for larger version.

    Default Ammo box compartment

Something else you might want to consider for one of the boxes closest to the tailgate:

    Awesome
Thanx for all the feedback and tips. I am a bit worried about the friction and was thinking of putting flat bar underneath to have a smooth surface, just need to figure out a way to put them on without beeing part of the frame but also be able to remove them.Maybe I should use some riff nuts
