    Default What is it.?

My mate bought a house and this was in his roof. Is it a gizmo for solar panels. There were no panels on the roof. Is it useful and what would it be worth.?
    What can it all do.

It looks like an inverter that needs a 48V DC source. Could be useful if it still works especially with the current power situation.

It is an Inverter (or part of one maybe) used to convert 12v source to 220 V AC or simulated AC power.
More likely to have been connected to batteries though ?
Being in the roof maybe to a solar panel but would that have not needed a solar controller?
So most likely just a part of a previous solar system.

It looks like a 3kva 48v inverter charger, there is AC input for the charge circuit and AC inverter output.

It may have been somehow coupled with a solar installation but it doesn't appear to have any solar controller functionality.

Looks like a normal battery backup system. Eskom in - Battery (48v) - 220v Out. So doesn’t look like it has solar capabilities

    Plunger,
Indian product sine wave inverter for power back up.
    Previous owner probably imported it.
Your friend should go buy a few bateries and use it.

How do you wire it. Does the house electricity go into the input and then it charges the batteries which are connected to the black and red dc wires. ? And if the power drops out does the box convert the battery power back to 240v and it comes out of the output block.?

    4 x 100Ah 12V batteries to make up the 48V.

It will keep your TV alive for quite some time.

So if he bought four batteries it would charge through eksdom and then in a power failure it would light up a portion of the household. Sounds like an expensive overkill to survive an hour of loadshedding.
But how many solar panels would prevent you from using Eksdom to charge the batteries and would this be a scenario where you could get a return on your capital outlay.
Also what other goodies besides panels would you need or can this box do all that is needed.?I am realizing how little I know of this subject.

I would firts have that inverter checked out and tested before investing in the batteries.

There may be a reason why the previous guy left it behind in the roof.
