    Default New Swift caravans in South Africa

    A British manufacturer of Swift caravans has launched two models in South Africa called the Atlantic and the Coastline. Swift go on to state;

    As soon as the caravans come off the production line, he says, they are meticulously inspected in the company’s massive quality check area by a women-only team. “It’s like a swarm of bees as the women go through each caravan looking for any defect, like things that are skew.” Apparently Swift has found that women see things that men just don’t – and the ladies at the Swift factory are the fussiest in the world!

    Hmm not according to many comments on some UK caravan forums. Also wonder how they will perform on South African roads which seem to be notorious for ruts and pot holes which is why most caravans in SA are built very rugged. We were going to buy a UK Swift 645 twin axle top of the range caravan last year, but the demo model was put together so badly with cupboard doors well out of alignment etc that we backed off and went elsewhere.

    Hopefully the caravans exported to South Africa will be in a lot better condition quality wise than some of the Swift UK caravans over here and be able to stand up to some of the roads.

    They look spacious and well built.

    I think they are only meant for the tar road market. But still, in SA you can visit amazing places without having to leave the tarmac.

    They are spacious but well built? They sell for nearly R80000 less in the UK with ALDE heating and are known as the Challenger. Only time will tell how good they really are concerning quality. BTW is damp in caravans a big issue in South Africa?

    It depends on where you live, but nothing like the UK!

    Hi Surfer01
    re damp: From my experience with clients, damp is not really an issue if you air your caravan well in the shade before storing.
    For those clients that do have concerns, especially roof top tents, I manufacture a mattress with a Rip-Stop wet-proof PVC at the bottom and sides. This seams to work brilliantly.

    In the UK damp is a major issue and you would have thought that caravan manufacturers would have got it right by now. Most damp issues stem from poor quality during manufacture where water can get into seams. I have seen caravans where you can virtually poke your finger from the inside through the wall to the aluminium skin and all the wood battens are rotten.
