    Default What pipe is this?

Hi guys. I'm hoping one you more mechanically minded guys can help me out. 2 days ago my freelander 2 started sounding like a swarm of bees under the bonnet, today I started noticing a distinct lack of power. The noise gets worse just under 2000rpm. Opened the cover up and saw a big cut in the hose in the Pic. It's going in to the repair shop, but I would like to know what this is and what it does before being told by the grease monkey (no offense, some grease monkeys are great people). Also, is it just general wear and tear that causes it or is a symptom of some bigger issue. Thanks in advance.

That appears to be a crank case oil breather pipe.
But it's difficult to see where it starts and connects you under the manifold.

EGR pipe from exhaust to intake is my guess.

Never seen or heard of an issue with that 'pipe' in my years of owing one or researching one. Looks like EGR pipe.

Whatever it is it's leaking bad...

Did some googling on the suggestions above. Its the crank case breather hose. Thanks for the help, it doesnt seem like a massive job to replace it (i hope), access to the other end may be the only issue. It is a 2007 vehicle, so i would expect some rubber and plastic to degrade over that time.

Yup crankcase breather pipe. Not the original clamp so its been forced off before probably damaging it then. Not very hard to replace. I would suggest you replace the silly Land rover crimp clamps on the other ends with proper hose clamps like in your picture.

Just wondering why there would then be a lack of power as per OP.

im not sure why, maybe it messes up some sensor? Ive come to realize that with this FL2, there seems to be more sensors than car sometimes.
Im sure its worse (more cpu's and sensors) in the range rovers

My 2c : depending on how the system is deigned a torn breather hose could result in a small or large vacuum leak.
