    Default FJ Cruiser

    Hi
I don't post here too often, but need some advice.

On Sunday, while out having some 4x4 fun in Bronkhorstspruit with the FJ (2012), I "crashed" into a hole that I just did not see. Damaged the front bumper, luckily only the black part of it. It happened between obstacles...

I was wondering of anybody has one lying around that they won't mind selling? I don't want to bother the insurance, not in the mood to explain what happened.

Alternatively, where do you suggest I go? Any aftermarket guys on here that remove the stock bumpers to fit aftermarket bumpers?

    Any advice will be appreciated.

If you don't come right here, ask Ross Mac Kay, whether he won't ask around on his FJ group.

Alternatively get a quote from Toyota, I think those parts might not be too expensive and it probably won't be worth it getting the insurance involved, considering that your premium might go up afterwards.

There was a recent thread where the fact of not informing your insurance company was considered not only unethical, but also a breach of contract and could cause an insurer to invalidate future claims.

Yeah, so just inform the insurance of the incident and that you won't claim. Then ask them to drop the premium...

Christo I would put in a claim and get yourself a gobiX or ARB or whatever you like. You will be surprised what those things cost. I do have an extra one but far from you.

also have a FJ bumper lying in the garage, but a bit far from you.

personally I would also claim and fit aftermarket, will be cheaper than the original.

Go aftermarket! Gobi do some nice front and back bumpers, you should have reversed so you can get the back one as well!

Otherwise you NEED to explain how you fell in a hole between obstacles-sounds like a good story!

I have an original 2011 bumper for you, but itís in PE. If you pay the courier cost itís yours. An aftermarket bumper looks awesome but I personally wouldnít do it again on a FJ

May I ask why? I was contemplating it as a future mod.

I should have added some extra clarity: if you plan to add extra equipment like a rtt, winch, camping equipment, then I wouldnít do the bumpers. If the fj is only a weekend toy then you can go for it. The fj is definitely more capable in sand and especially dunes with less weight added, in my experience at least. You most probably will also not see a sent of that investment when you sell the car again.
