Default Fridge for Inside the car - Dometic vs Indel B

    Gents,

I'm looking to buy a fridge to be used inside the car, at the moment I'm looking at these two from ODW, any feedback from guys that have them, any other suggestions in the same price range? The Snomaster won't work for me - it's to high.

Both have a compressor, I'm leaning towards the Dometic purely because of size - which is better?

    Thanks.

seems super expensive considering the size.

Do you have another bigger fridge already? Can you explain your use case?

    NJVermaak,

Looking at the options I will go for the Dometic. It offers bettter value (capacity) for the money.

I am planning on getting one as a fridge for the vehicle keeping the perishables and dairy cold and then the Engel for the freezer. This is where my planning is heading.

Also dometic is a well known international brand.

I do have NL90 that goes in the canopy/BL depending on our setup - my idea is to use for snacks & cold drinks/water while driving in areas we can't get out the car, Kgalagadi/KNP for example. I also have a 4yr old in the car so we don't have to stop often to get him something. They are expensive, which is why I want to buy a lasting product off the bat.

I have the Waeco/Dometic CF 16 used as a back seat fridge for water and beers. It works really well, cools quickly and retains the cold well.

I do find it to be power hungry but probably because it is small and is opened often and refilled with warm water and I only run this one off the ignition
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

I have an Indel B. Have had it for about 6 years now, mounted between the front seats. Great little fridge, I run it off the ignition only.

I’ve got one of the 21l Dometics. Works well enough, comes with a little 220v to 12v converter so it can be taken out at overnights and plugged into mains. Don’t actually use it thaich any more because I bought the 50l Dometic which goes into the Tuna slider and .. more capacity.

The little one above is a bit small I reckon?

Those tiny "fridges" are very expensive for what you get! I would rather take a 30l. I have had an Indel B (50l) for six years - no hassles. They make fridges for many of the luxury yachts, hotels etc and were backed by National Luna.

NJ my neighbour also has an "in car" fridge, for the same reasons - have drinks and snacks on hand for the little one and when in Kgalagadi.

It is HANDY ! BUT, it is not large enough to be the "only fridge" for the trip

Thus yes, a lot of money for a very small fridge ... but for the intended purpose, well worth the money.

On paper the Dometic is the one to get .... BUT, which one will FIT inside your vehicle ?

Whatever you do, stay away from the Snomaster. Not because it doesn't work, it works fine. It's just that the compressor seems to rattle in unit. I got mine with the vehicle, but will get something else if I have to replace.

For what it's worth, in the Land Cruiser, I think the Dometic 11l makes the most sense because it has 2 extra cup holders which are very handy. But for other vehicles this might not be such a big issue.

Not sure if you have a Checkers Hyper close to you, but they are advertising a 42L BushBaby for R3999. -18 degrees to 10 degrees, LcD Display, Anti vibration, Fast freeze to 0 degrees.

No measurements but it looks similar to the Dometic / Waeco range.
