Default Nat Luna Battery Pack Red Socket Problems

    Hi,

So I have never had a problem with Brad Harrison plugs before and they make good contact for the most part.

So my Nat Luna box is not charging, check fuses etc. all good. Found that by twiddling the BH plug the charging starts. However it if rather tenuous and couple of bumps on the rod and I am sure she will stop charging. My feeder from the boot to the box I have confidence in as the leads are both crimped and soldered.

Before I open the puppy up any suggestions as to the poor contact?

Check if the contacts on both plugs are hooked properly over the silver-coloured plates in the plugs.
If corroded, undo the connections and clean with a steel brush or replace.
I have found that different brands of these plugs have different dimensions on the actual connectors.

I've had the same problem with the red plugs ...

The added complication is that when the box looses the main battery connection and then re-connects, the timer starts all over again. I replaced the red with grey and have not had the problem since.

I don't think it is colour-related, but the replacement probably did the trick

    That is the thing ......

I opened it up to check that all the connections were sound. Bought 2 new red ones, pulled the wires and metal pins from the old ones and inserted them into the new red plugs. Same problem. Bought 2 new grey ones. Pulled the wires and metal pins from the red ones and put them straight into the grey ones. Problem gone ......

    Can't explain it ....

I'm intrigued that you can crimp the contact..
Looks to me like it's made for a soldered connection.
I would only solder. (Yes I know that if the contacts get red hot it might desolder the connection)
What worries me about crimping is that you are deforming the contact shape.
It's a precision plug so the less deformity introduced the better (and you can desolder the contact and use it elsewhere)

I have had the body of a reb BH look-alike plug crack (difficult to see) The movement allowed by the crack causes intermittent/bad connections.
Never had a grey one crack. Perhaps the slightly different shape?
