Surely the pound can't go any lower against the kwacha?! This is making an expensive country even more expensive........

I wonder if the Zam government is aware of the impact that these exchange rates will have on tourism from Europe, and will maybe factor that into the equation when they consider the next hike in park fees etc?

    No, thought not.........

Mike the current strength is a direct function of the weakness in European markets, poor financial governance in the West and the strength in the copper price mainly caused by the Chinese markets and dont forget India. Also remember the the West wrote of all the debt of Zambia way back in 2005 I think, thus Zambia is not bankrupt as most European countries nor do they suffer from the same amount of greed vissible in the West especailly in the US markets

The strength of the Kwacha is thus not a reflection of the true situation in Zambia but rather the rotten economies of Europe, America and don't forget South Africa.

In SA I think we need to see another R3- R4 drop in the fx before its is where is should be, reflecting the true SA situation of poor competitiveness, corruption and excessive debt.

Interesting Bertie. I know that there is a lot of government interference in the fuel market in Zambia, so is that price drop a result of decisions by the new government?

Seems Zambia is heading for a period of fuel shortages again.
There is no crude in the country and also non on the way so the refinery has been shut.....what can I say

Will be filling up all my jerry cans as well as vehicles, this is going to cost a fortune, Lux 240lt, LC76 160 lt, LC80 160lt + 8x jerry cans.
We need to keep the genset at home fueled as well

Some crude is apparently now on the way and indications are that Ndeni refinery will start production early next week. Hopefully the situation can be normalised within the next 2 weeks

    Default No Petrol

There is a severe shortage of petrol with nothing available in Lusaka at the moment

Diesel supply seems to be ok for now

Seems that the supply of both petrol and diesel have normalised.
Now what does this mean in the Zambian context?

Cities and large towns would have fuel, but remote areas are not guaranteed to have. The golden rule.....fill-up when ever you can!

    Default Undated Fx

Attached is an updated fx table.
Fuel pricing is stable but I am expecting an increase.

Diesel supply is challenging with less than 1 week's diesel supply in storage and Indeni refinery about to be shutdown for 45 days.

Petrol supply is ok for now

The shutdown of Ndeni refinery has been delayed for one week siting shotage of imported fuel. Not sure how they will be able to build stocks if they failed to do so during the last 6 months.

    Fuel pricing remains the same

    Cool

    Hi Bertie,

I am quite astonished about the diesel prices, last July / August it was ZKW 7,500 / 7,600, even in big towns.

JUST EDITED: I HAD ONLY SEEN A VERY OLD POST ON THE FIRST PAGE: TIME FOR A COLD MORNING SHOWER

    Sorry about that

    Cheers..

Indeni has been shut. We are expecting wide spread fuel shortages for the next few weeks. Imports via SA and DAR are delayed due to strikes and customs disputes
