    Default Proposed Botsawna/Namibia Safari

    Hi.

    New member calling...!!

Three of us are embarking on a month's trip to/from SA via Botswana & Namibia, starting from Joburg on 13/02/19 in either a Hilux or Land Cruiser supplied by Bush Lore.

The trip to Maun would be uneventful we gather but then we would like to travel to Khwai & then on to Savuti, can anyone advise on the state of the roads.

It looks as though the Transit Road commences about 60 miles north of Savuti when we aim for Ngoma Bridge & enter Namibia.

The tar road through the Caprivi to Swakopmund looks OK. What about the road from Walvis Bay to Sossusvlei & down to Lüderitz?

    Any info would greatly appreciated.

Well, you are doing huge steps on your trip

There is no transit road bypassing Savuti (check T4A to be sure).
If you are going from Khwai to Ngoma you will have to pass through Savuti.
Reading you post again "60 miles North of Savuti" mean 100 km from Savuti, then I am lost for a bypass road.
    What would the road bypass?
There is a cut-line track but 60 miles from Savuti it would well be behind you. T4A would help again.

The road will change a lot during the rainy season so what you find today is absolutely irrelevant in February, referring to water in the tracks, sand patches or mud, you have to find out in January how the rain has affected that section.

You don't tell us the purpose of the trip, so difficult to give advice on where to stop or what to see, unless of course it's the drive that is the purpose .

As fo the Nam section, Walvis to Sossus Vlei, all depends on the last blading (grading), it can be very corrugated and rattle your teeth's fillings out or it can be a walk in the park and smooth, but expect the worse part and you can have a positive surprise.

Thanks so much for the info. Not sure what T4A is...??

Re the Transit road 100kms north of Savuti, I was referring to the tarred road which finishes just south of Kachikau.

The trip is a holiday having lived in Botswana for 3 years in the late 70s, for Debswana at Jwaneng, but we never ventured north of Gabs.

We will get more road condition advice when arriving in Maun, when we can make the decision to go to Khwai/Savuti by vehicle or travel via Nata to Kasane & then take an organised south from there.

Any information of the areas we plan to visit would be most appreciated from anyone.

    Thanks again
