My Jimny![]()
Hello 👋 This is my first post on this forum. Thought I'd start by sharing some photos of my GV from this past weekend. I purchased her in May this year after nine years driving a Figo (The Figo's ground clearance became an issue, so hence the change)
Over this last weekend she got a real baptism of fire (snow?) in Mokhotlong, Lesotho.

Welcome to the Grand Vitara owners 'club'.
They are brilliant vehicles.
Love that colour.

Recently got my new to me Jimny.
Will be used as a daily and weekend toy. Already loving it!
Came with 215/75R15 Grabbers which is very nice, but desperately needs a lift. Ordered a 40mm RAW kit and last week I measured the standard flex, looking forward to seeing the improvement.
Currently it has 235/55 R18's. Surprisingly, on the gravel with a bit of snow it actually held up very well. (we did have snow chains packed just in case) There was one remote village we visited where we had to leave the GV behind and go in the two accompanying Defenders, but apart from that, Sani Pass on dry gravel it did very well, and then cross-country to Caledon's Poort to leave was mostly tar. But the few gravel bits in the snow it did phenomenally well. Long term will definitely have to get smaller rims. I did see a thread somewhere on the forum about GV tyres, which was very insightful!
Thank you! Absolutely loving this car. Fluke of a purchase. It's a 2013 2.4 Summit with only 85,000km on the clock. Very grateful. Will build it into something more suitable for offroad over time. Glad to be part of the club and to learn from all of you.

I recently did a long trip (Sydney - Perth - Sydney) in my Grand Vitara.
Traded in the GV for a Jimny![]()
Both are good good cars IMHO, each with own strengths and weaknesses, I recently did a long (Sydney - Perth - Sydney) trip - mostly on tar, but still 1500 Km+ offroad and what it came down to for me was:
The Grand Vitara is great on the road and okish in terrain. I realised that I like driving in general, but LOVE offroad driving. A Jimny is okish on the road and great offroad.
Also on some of the small tracks the independent suspension of the GV made the car hit the ground quite a lot of times. I picked a track that I knew my old (I had one in 2012) Jimny would have breezed over and it was extremely stressful.
The Jimny is a lot smaller so take that in account, I come from a backpacking background so the 'small' size does not fase me so much, so much bigger then a backpack!
please keep in mind everyone has their own opinion about cars, think about what sort of driving you will do the most, what do YOU enjoy and value the most and then see if you borrow or rent a Jimny / GV and see which one ticks most of your boxes
