    Default TJ wrangler project

    Hi Guys,
So I just picked up a 1997 tj jeep wrangler sahara hardtop for good money.
It been parked out in the elements for the last two years after a failed repair job on the auto gearbox by a back yard mechanic.
Its been neglected and hammered a bit but the engine is good and the potential huge.
The gearbox was a quick fix lucky. The TV cable was off on the gearbox side, which probably lead to the oil and filter change and then the incorrect level check being done with the engine off meant atf was low. Connected the cable and topped up the atf and it now shifts as it should.
The plans for now are as below:
    - 2 inch lift
    - new shocks
    - respray
    - clean clean clean
    - 17" JK rims with 265 65 r17s
    - seat lift
    - remove roof rack
    - front and rear bumpers
    - half top soft top with tonneau cover
    - fix as many rattles as possible

It currently very jittery and unstable on the dirt. Is this part of there charm or is the suspension beyond it?

Any other ideas to add to the list?

First mod on my list would be diff ratios.

If it is a toy I would go with 33s

Mine is surprisingly stable on dirt, your suspension must be a little tired.

Look at all bushes when doing the lift, a death wobble is no fun.

I'll stick to the 265/65 r17s which are 30.6" for now until i can do the diff ratios as i have an old set off my Ranger when I upgraded tyres.

Huge improvement over stock candles. Got them on amazon for 97. Well worth the money. Pic is of them on dim. I have a video but can't upload it here.

Still waiting for parts to arrive but wheel adaptors and lift will be here this next week so fitted the tyres on the rims so i finally got an idea how they will look.

Been busy fixing a few other issues as well. Fixed auto box leak, fixed rear brakes, several rattles and squeaks gone. Tightened up loose suspension bolts so riding a lot better now.

Rims and temporary tyres on. Looks good but think the tyres will look a bit small once the lift is in.

Been a while since i last posted. Haven't had much time to work on the jeep.

Dropped the auto to rebuild it and started on the body work.

Your Jeep looks decent. Are you changing the colour as well?

Trying to keep the standard colour but had paint mixed to the colour code and new paint is coming out a touch lighter. It has more silver specs verse the original gold specs. Not too worried as i'm doing a full respray.
