    Default Amarok leak

    Hi

Came home today and parked in my usual place. After an hour or so I went outside and noticed a big leak of some sort just in front but on the inside of the rear left tyre. Stuck my finger into the tar and it's all soft. Not sure if it's diesel or oil. Checked oil level on dipstick and shows half. But why leak at the back?

Any ideas as to what it could be or if anyone else has experienced this problem with the Amarok?

Without knowing the layout of the VW, I would guess a diesel line leak.

I only say this because my old Nissan has fuel lines running on the chassis rail, and when I pulled pipes apart a while back to do some some chassis welding work, the diesel pushes back and gives me the same leak every day as it gets hot.

Might be a leak from the brakes - check your brake fluid levels.

Pour a little bit of water on it, then you can see if it is diesel, brake fluid etc. Brake fluid will mix with the water and wash away, diesel will not.

Check if you have a diesel cooler underneath, might leak from there.

Yup - had a friend with exactly the same problem. Turn out it's dog pee after he did the taste test.

On a slightly different note. Years ago a bunch of us, all in our early twenties went for a drive a friends car. An automatic Cresida SW of all things. As was the habit a the time, he had fitted huge mag wheels with very widely spaced spokes, so the brake discs were very visible. We had just descended a long stretch of mountain road and being automatic, the brakes had a good workout. We stopped off at a farmer to visit the daughters and as we stopped, a bunch of odgs came running up to the car and the first one let rip on the front wheel, hitting the brake disc full on. The very hot disc immediately turned the stream into a hige cloud of steam. The dog nearly jumped over the car! Was very funny
