    Default GS Moon...mmm?

Hey you guys saw this thing last week?!

What is your thoughts on this? I read its got the gearbox of the Cherry QQ!

    So what’s it made of?
Well it’s quite simple really. They have taken an 800cc Chery car engine and slotted it in to an off -road frame. To make it go anywhere, they have chucked in some long travel suspension (independent) and 4wd.
Fat, seriously well-treaded tyres are mounted on silver mag wheels, giving lots of bite and some excellent ground clearance
Overpriced? or not? Dont think its gonna last!

    Price

    R 112 000.00

    R 125 000.00

    Engine

    http://www.toyscom.co.za/models/GSMoon

Guess its just like a quad car!?

I have had a GSMoon for 2,5 years now, and the vehicle is definetely not crap, it is tough, and of excellent quality. Secondly its 4x4 capabililty is the best in Africa. everywhere I have been, nothing that was there to compete with could keep up with the GSMoon, and that is a standard vehicle. You should try one, you will be amazed. The gear ratois are very low, so the vehicle is super strong, with lots of low end torque. its 1st gear acts as a low range, and climbs anything. We climbed sand dunes, 600 meters long, that nothing else could do, in 2nd laughing! So maybe before you say bad things about a car, try one first!

No like big sam said for that price buy a wrangler.
Cant see that it would keep up with a stock wrangler. Independend suspension with litle wheel travel. Yes it would be good in sand but not in axel twisters oand rocks

Ben du Toit - sorry to sound blunt but, i dont beleive you - show us some pics of your 2.5yr old GSMoon going UP a 600m dune with it`s 800cc engine - what? You`re saying that what seems to be a go cart with an 800cc (CHERY ENGINE) and some quad bike tyres has the best 4x4 capability in Africa, ie, the entire African continent? Are you sure?

At 39Kw I don't see it being all that powerfull even if it is relatively lightweight. With front, rear and centre difflock I can imagine it being quite capable but ground clearance and articulation will always be a problem.

Looks very capable, low weight 350mm ground clearance and diff locks front and back.

Could even run to work in it at 16km/l

Many years ago, I built a specialized game-viewer buggy. Basically it consisted of a Beetle floor, old Combi gearbox and Nissan 1400 engine.

Under the specialized conditions it was built for (and existed in the area where it was used) that thing often made 4x4's look rather stupid. And that was just 2wd and had an open diff.

I am quite prepared to believe that this little thing will make my Patrol look more than just a little stupid. But I also know that it cannot ever replace my Patrol.

As far as how good the quality is or how long it will last, I cannot comment, but a small, light vehicle with diff locks all round, a low CG, great manueverability and relatively large contact patches will perform very well under lots of different off-road conditions.
Beat-up rat rod of a '96 Nissan Patrol that bears the evidence of many wonderful adventures (and a few stupid indiscretions).

Well, I would love to see this toy, go head to head with a Yamaha Rhino. I would assume it will be about the same.

    PS. The Rhino has LR.

I went to have a look and short test drive

Yes it is a Chinese import and with a 800cc motor and small body is is not a real car BUT....

    1.) It drives lekker
2.) It is now road worthy - not an everyday drive but at least legal
    3.) It is very light
4.) 4x4 performance will be good enough for me to add to the 2 x Disco's

I want something to take with on Holiday - tow on trailer and have fun with whilst at the sea or on friends game farms etc..

I can buy a older Wrangler fo the price (I really want 2 door Rubi) they are bit more in R's for the JK shape (sorry don't like the TJ) and won't tow as easily.

We had a VW Beetle based beach buggy when I was at school GR8 fun this is more in-line with that idea.

YES - The price is propably to high for what you get what is NOT when buying cars in SA

It is a GS Moon or a LR Defender 90 or an Old JK

All 3 very different but as toys the 1 is new and small and light ?

Ag I don't know what to do...but if I get a GS Moon - I will gladly join a forum day and we can test it too either laugh at me or just say SHO small and light can do few things better than big and heavy and visa versa

PS - I agree Ben should post again and come clean 8) I met him last week when I visited the shop for my test drive and he looked like a nice guy maybe just not to clear on how forums and our people work

I just had a long look at them... Its a awesome little car.!!

If I had money for one I'd buy one NOW.

BUT, the angle of the rear CV joint irritates me, it looks as if it would break out any minute.
