    Default GC Wk2 3.6 Decat

    Morning all

Cats are dying in my GC, there’s a strong Sulphur smell out of the exhausts.

Anyone removed the cats and if so comments on performance, fuel consumption, noise, etc

Then who can be trusted in the northern parts of JHB to remove the cats and do the necessary to stop the ECU throwing a wobble after they’ve been removed.

    Thanks in advance!!
    Cheers

    D

talking from having this done on my 5.7 hemi, a competent tuner using the HP Tuner and software should be able to delete the 2nd set of O2 sensors via the ECU after removing the cats. Also should be able to do all sorts of other useful ECU adjustments like fan activation temp.

What's your odometer reading, why are your cats destroyed? Should I expect the same on my Wrangler that has 160k on?

My MIL comes on about ever 3000km with faulty cats. I clear it and it's fine for a couple of months then fault comes on again. My wk2 3.6 has 150k km.

So very interested to know how to do this successfully.

Is there any advantage to removing the cats?

Car has done 110k km, but most of it in traffic running kids around 20-30kms a day and then 100km trips on the freeway Friday and Sunday, or at least I think that’s why...

Apparently improved performance and fuel consumption or so I’ve heard...

My cats in my 2011 5.7 Hemi are doing the same.

I would like to do a cat back exhaust and delete the cats

Nope, did some more investigation and the car will tell you when they’re knackered. Will throw a message on the OSD something along the lines of

The car has 4 cats, so you only remove the rearmost cat on each exhaust.

I was told that Powerflow in Midrand were probably the best to cut them out, but you need to get Cat Foolers/Mini Cats installed afterwards and the codes cleared.

Mini Cats around R600 each and probably about R2k for the exhaust work, so a relatively cheap exercise compared to replacing the cats at about R30k.
