Default WK suddenly won't start. Is my battery kaput?

Tried to start the Jeep, starter turned over a few times, although not particularly enthusiastically. Now just clicks when you try. Also got a "service park assist" message, then "service 4wd system". Interior LED lights flickered a few times before coming on properly.

Reading 12.44V across the battery terminals. Is it likely dead? Anyone with a healthy WK able to provide a voltage reading for comparison? Don't want to replace battery unnecessarily.

    Are the terminals tighened correctly?

It sounds like a loose connection. If the terminals are tightly attached, then check the earth strap as well as the thick cable running from the battery to the starter motor.

Terminals are tight and spotless. Will check the rest later. Started flawlessly last might, a bit odd that it's struggling now just a few hours later.

Loaned a charger from my neighbour, had it on about an hour and it went up to 12.88V and that was enough for a flawless start, so I pulled out of the garage so long and left it parked on the driveway.

Will see a bit later what happens, check if there's any current flowing while it's off, measure voltage with alternator running, etc.

Other suggestions also welcomed at this stage.

Sounds like it could very likely be batter, I would suggest you swing by your local Battery Center and have them test the battery. All the warning lights and strange phenomena is consistent with a battery problem.

Yeah, going to call around for pricing first and have it tested to make sure.

This sounds like battery, My JK did the same thing.
I noticed it coming for about 2 months where my Jeep would turn, but as you say... not enthusiastically.

One day I wanted to start it up, it turned then the relay started clicking and my lights came up.
I put it on charge and nothing helped.

I had a deep cycle battery in my boat, put it in my Jeep to test, Jeep started right up.
SO I took my wifes car to Super Quick and bought a new battery for R850, and its has been good since.

Battery tested OK, so not sure what to make of it. Still possible it's borderline and just barely on the right side of the "GOOD/BAD" line... will see how it behaves.

Sounds like the dreaded "dead cell"...

Had same thing with just about every car i've owned and its always been the same thing...

    Hi HeavyG

The four-wheel drive service message on the WK is often the battery. My brother bought a WK where that message came up but the battery still had enough to start the engine. The Jeep spent days in the stealer's workshop and they could not figure it out. A few days later the battery dies, it was replaced on no more message.

I recently had issues in determining if my deep cycle battery is dead. Had it tested at a few places and got different responses, tested it at home, charged using different chargers etc etc. At the end of the day I am just gonna replace the battery.

Yes despite the test I'm 95% certain its about to give up on me. If it happens again tomorrow morning I think I might as well replace it.

Sure it's battery (relay clicking no start) and for peace of mind and not getting stranded somewhere prolly best just to replace battery.

Had the same symptoms on my WK a while ago and it turned out to be a dead cell on the battery.

I had same issue, I think it does not allow it to start if certain voltage from the battery is available.
