Default Platkar Clutch Shudder in 1st

The wife's platkar has (for quite a while now) an issue where the clutch shudders when pulling away in 1st. There is no shudder while changing gears. Only when pulling away. It also does not shudder as much when you rev a fair bit higher before dropping the clutch. It also seems to be less evident when the car is warm.

Any thoughts as to what might be the cause?

My GV Clutch does this when it gets warm - basically, your clutch is on its way out....
We were told to drive it until it becomes too much of a problem, then off to the (s)dealers and replace....
    Sorry...!

The pressure plate is not up to the job anymore...

Some genius decided that the clutches are to hard and then decided to make pressure plate splines thinner so that you have a nice soft clutch, unfortunately they don't last, your clutch plate itself might well have another 30k on it but the pressure plate is moeg....but enjoy the nice soft clutch they said....

SimonB I have exactly the same issue. Mine started at below 100k km. Toyota said I should replace it if it becomes worse (at around R20k for the clutch and flywheel it is not cheap). Now on 270k km with the same clutch.

What is the mileage on your car?

Burn the clutch a bit in reverse with the handbrake tight. Worked for me.

Oil leak onto clutch assy can cause shudder.

Hmm, I am planning on replacing my flywheel as I am having the same symptom , and assume that it is the rubbers in the Dual Mass Flywheel that have given up the ghost.

For me it is also only when pulling away in 1st or reverse under some load that it becomes and issue. Once I am on the move there is no problem.

I am not planning on oil seals on gearbox or engine at this stage, but since this wagon is my primary mover, I cant really leave it in pieces and try and find seals on Saturday so I hope my hypothesis is correct.

DMF or clutch plate springs could be worn.

Had a strange clutch shudder on a 325 BMW once, the diff had so much backlash that under the correct circumstances the whole driveline would go into a shudder when pulling of.

The diff was replaced by BMW at 50k km's, with a host of other things that had also given up by that milage.

Yes you are right. But my driveway runs downhill so it's easier to do it in reverse.
