    Default November GTG Fun Trail

    Hi All,

Ive being thinking.... yes its sometimes dangerous... but sometimes.... I do get some bright ideas, or I made myself think so

As the year is really almost gone what about we arrange a GTG 4x4 day.

I have made a poll, to see which trail in most popular,

    Goals are simple:
    Meet and greet
    Play and have fun
    Halfway Braai
Get to know more Community member, put some faces to the names

    Awesome Cobus!!!

I have unfortunately 2 other outings this month, I would have been there in a flash.

If I may give an idea: for most people Saturday outings are just out, most of us only get to be away from work on Sundays.

We can do this either a Saturday on Sunday, but do understand many oaks might still be working Saturday

    Great initiative

Would camping the Saturday evening be an idea/option? Thus, 4x4 track the morning/afternoon and GTG the evening?

I have arranged Moegatle for the Land Cruiser Club for next weekend, 9 - 11 Nov. Camping weekend.

Yes, this is the only way for me, and most people I know.

    Cobus

This is sad, and the reason why I do not arrange any meets any more on this forum..

I believe, there are only literally a handful yes maybe 5 members on this Forum, who post regularly, that still go off road.

The rest are here to talk politics

If so Dirk, why have you got so many Cruisers joining you next weekend?

People who actually go off-road, have moved away from this forum.

    And obviously, this is why.
The only thing going for this forum is the constant chatter.... Hardly anyone here even opens threads like these anymore...

    This is a good idea.

For me Saturdays are the only day and Sunday more difficult.

I like the list you have put up. You can also consider Piesangkloof (although it can be a long trail if you do the entire one and are a big group).

I also think that it is becoming expensive. A day like this will easily cost R500 +. (if you compare it to other entertainment it is actually still reasonable).

I have actually reached a point where I have started to budget for 4x4 events.

Of course we read these threads, I just think some of us prioritize where we spend the bucks and our time.

Mine are trips into the bush. KTP in Jan, Botswana in Sept 2019 none of which are cheap. Regular trails would put me in a position of one or the other.

R500 bucks does not get me up my street.
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Seems to me it will be a few ghosts to 4x4 nowhere .... not enough interest to make it worth while...

I have the same thinking as Hedgehog think most of the guys that do regular 4x4 trips have left the forum.

Lot of 4x4 activities going on almost every weekend. The guys still here doing trails and more hardcore stuff does not report or post about it.

There are many reasons I really think other than the bad economy. Locally we have outings about once a month and I must say that it sometimes feels a little crowded too my liking. Huge difference in being active in 4x4 activities and sitting behind a keyboard pretending to be active.

The active clubs have drawn away all the active members. I know for a fact that the, Land Cruiser, Patrol , 4x4AG and other clubs are fairly busy.

On some of my latest outings it were nice to see and meet up with guys on trails. Waterford dune route near Groblershoop is fully booked almost every week end with groups and clubs traveling from as far as Gauteng and Capetown.

Over time natural separation have done its job. Birds of the feather flock together.

It is a pity that things have changed the way it is.

In the old days a thread like this were started and would have the 4x4 Community flag flying high.
On the other hand you need very good organizers behind 4x4 events to attract attention.
