I agree with all the comments about the luxury upgrades

If you really think it about it, that might be the reason we are seeing more and more luxury SUV's on the road

I've had 5 Toyota SUV's and this wil be my last I'm also moving over to BMW just like Toyota is doing 😉

In some African markets they use the D4-D in the new shaped Fortuner and Hilux

Yip. They still use 3.0 d4d in Central Africa with that intercooler scoop on bonnet in new Fortuner.

LOL (just like Toyota is doing)

Only concern for me was “application usage”. Meaning the retail market BMW X could/would most likely break doing with it what you would with a Hilux/Fortuner (and cost a heap more cash to fix when it breaks).
If your usage won’t be hectic 4x4ing, the BMW X3 & X5 is flippen amazing.

PS: That is the reason why I have NO need for any of the upgrades listed here, sunroof for example. I don't even have the need for a stop/start button in a car, since when is it too much trouble to turn a key?
We as people are crazy. A car is suppose to take you from point A to B, but no, we want to sit in a luxury movie theater techno gadget whilst we are doing it and then we complain because car prices are CRAZY.

I dont get this. If you require so little then you will be happy with a Mahindra, available and currently on sale.
But if you are willing to pay more than R600k on a car, then I do want a luxury movie theater techno gadget for my money.

Push start is awesome and have become a minimum requirement for my family/primary vehicle

The fact that I am not content to waste money on gadgets where a car should be first and foremost a method of transport, does not mean I am content to not know if I will reach my destination...

And no, I don't need the R600,000 fortuner, the R524,800 one will do just fine should I. But as you can see, the paid off 2011 one does it purpose, no need and not willing to toss away half a million rand plus interest for gadgets thank you very much.

    My take overall is;
    - Do you want capable (Hilux/Fortuner 4x4 kind)
    - Do you luxury (BMW/Merc kind)
    - Do you want low maintenance cost that won’t break the bank
    - Do you want reliable
    - Do you want well priced (“relatively” cheap)
    - Do you want all and the latest tech and creature comforts

Can’t have it all and can’t have some combinations of that...

Personal want is also expensive, just a lot of money. Even in being rational with a working combination is muchos $$$ LOL

If my geographical mind remembers correctly, Mauritius is part of Africa, albeit an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean

Even some East Asian countries have it in D4-D form.

Marco, the X5 3.0d is a real gem.
When I had one, even took it over the Swartberg Pass, no problems at all and even with the 20” wheels

I did the switch the other way, to Fortuner. My “application” changed the other way too.

Did not think X5 had enough ground clearance to be of any use out there...

Swartberg Pass is basically just gravel with no added or higher capability vehicles really needed. There were some standard cars going over the Pass too.
The drive of the X5 is just in another class and never short of power.

So, on the new Fortuner facelift (2019), other then the black roof, electric tailgate and Navigation, what else additional does it have? Anything mechanical upgraded/new?Anyone know for certain if there will also be another upgrade or new offerings in 2020?

AFAIK the 'black roof' was a dealer spec mod and not part of the TSA FT face lift program?

Will have to go see one in the flesh... that front looks really cool (the two pics there are not quite the same). Probably comes at a price 😬
