Does anyone know of a camp closer to Pretoria which is similar to Matamba where we can go for a quick weekend in the bush?
I like Kyleu bush camp (in Dinokeng). It's unfenced so you have to be careful obviously (especially with little ones I would presume). Otherwise Willemsrus (also in Dinokeng). Not as nice as Matamba (25 stands and closer together) but it's fenced, not a caravan park and it's close. I'd suggest avoiding Dinokeng over payday weekends / long weekends though because of the music coming from Hammanskraal shebeens.

Dankie Christoff. Ek het nogal gedink om Willemsrus uit te probeer.

Not to mention the toll-gate queue that you seem to join even before leaving Pretoria.

You can add mygrootfontein (mygrootfontein.com) near Thabazimbi, we camped at Marula camp and we enjoyed it thorougly. Camp site is basic with a toilet and shower, there is a small zink house on the camp site should you want to use it. Spectacular views and good 4x4 roads up the mountains for game drives.

Hulle bel of wa my op 082 4244564, en na n kort gesprek besluit ons of hulle geskik is vir wild camping. Voertuig, toerusting, gesindheid afhanklik.

Nie almal is welkom. Reg van toegang bly voorbehou.

Okay, so I'm looking for the next 2 bushcamps to camp at in Jan (within 3h drive of JHB). B'sorah is one, has anyone been to one of these recently?

    - Piesangkloof 4×4?
    - Berg-en-rivier *river stands' ablutions not great apparently
    - Mabalingwe (4x4 camp) *few reports of serious baboon problems
    - Sondela (Tambuki Camp) *some bad reports of the state of the camp

    - Grootfontein Private Nature Reserve (marula eco camp) @LesseW suggested this one, thanks

Wanted to try Bendito ranch but they're fully booked until 31 Jan!

Default Definative SA bush camp list

I’ve been to Tambuki last year. Donkey takes forever to get warm and once warm you have to fuel it else it gets cold. 5 camp sites, camp sites 2,3,4 surround the shared lapa and restrooms. 1 and 5 are fairly private but you walk through 2,3,4 on your way to the restrooms. These are my only negatives, I will definitely go back there for what they offer (close to PTA and with a baby we can still use their other amenities)

I would like a review on Piesangkloof...

Maybe not that much of a Bush Camp as it is linked to the trail, sites might feel close to each other (see my youtube video on Piesangkloof, in the beginning there is a section where I drive through the camp).

There should be a lot of shade, so will be interesting to know where you would put your solar panels.

If you are going to do Piesangkloof you might want to do 4x4 Kungwini at a Stage as well this is about 1.5 hrs from Jhb.

Note. After your Bsorah camp - please don't share the secret

Not sure if this is listed:

    Tokkelosbus at Schoemanshof near Parys.

    www.schoemanshof.co.za.

Not been there but looks wonderful.
Will possibly be my first camp this year after the holidays.

    Cheers

We will go back. It is a lovely place and nothing wrong. Great hosts but often campers make campsites unpleasant.

Last year a bunch of Americans were very noisy and just took over the pool.

I will try get Mara's camp next time.

Who is coming with to share costs?
