Love the idea and initiative Christof and enjoyed your you tube ones that are up, check out our blog too, Shumba should be there.

    Keep up the good work!

Serendipity in Limpopo. Lots of secluded sites with open air showers and lovely 4 x 4 trails.

I'll put it in but I must be honest we did not have a good experience there. We had a chalet at the back of our campsite where we had the brandewyn-het-nie-brieke-nie-check-out-my-kief-sound-system brigade (barking dog and all :P). Also had quads up and down the whole time even though they aren't supposed to be in that area. Person on duty didn't seem to care. Maybe it was just bad luck

Peter, there are two: the De Hoop Nature Reserve is situated just outside Bredasdorp in the Western Cape. In yonder days it used to be the Krygkor missile testing range and before that there were a bunch of beautiful farms that produced indigenous flowers and fynbos. Most notably a whole fishing community was uprooted by the then Goverment and relocated. The Afrikaans song "Skipskop" tells the story and whether one likes Afrikaans music or not, it is worth listening to the words - very poignant. (Pardon the short hijack OP!)

Not sure whether there's any camping facilities.
    ENJOY!!!

    Good thinking Christoff.

My idea of a perfect bush camp is...... secluded enough not to hear your neighbours or see their lights at night.

I find night sounds and the night sky the main attractions.

They are few and far between but am enjoying the search. Ideal example - CKGR Sunday's Pan, Leopard Pan & Passarge Valley. Also Mahuasehube.

Places like Anysberg & the Tankwa Karoo are often secluded due to nearby stands being unoccupied. Don't go there during school holidays.

I have just returned from a trip to the Eastern Cape.

Please add Kouga Wilderness near Joubertina. You should ask for the bushcamp by name, they also have a general campsite.

Another excellent one is Bhejane near Willowmore.

Both places are run by great people.

I'm talking to Tolman (resident forum GIS expert) to see if we can add it to an interactive map (that's non-commercial and we can all contribute to), will let you know how we go

I'm happy to do the first batch but I think what would be more valuable in the long run is a database for people to submit their own contributions

What a great thread! Thanks for opening.

    I will add for Zimbabwe:
The exclusive CS in Gonarezhou (except Chilojo) are good and private bush camps.

A lovely camp to add to the KZN list is Edwaleni in the Hidden Valley near Mooi River. It is situated on the banks of the Mooi river, no electricity. It is discussed in this thread: https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...28#post1074028

This is an interesting point. How do we share these places (and thus keep them in business and encourage more of them) without them being overrun?

Will do a Southern Africa one later, this SA one alone is turning out to be a beast
