    Default Klein Karoo Trip

    Howzit.

I'm doing a trip through the Karoo during the boiling hot month of December (who wants snow during Christmas anyway).

    Prince Albert - Tankwa - Cederberg/Wupperthal.

Can anyone recommend a route from Prince Albert - Tankwa (possibly the R354?), then from there to Wupperthal. I believe the Doring will be really difficult to pass at the moment, but possibly ok by that time of year.

Unfortuantely just the one car, so no back up vehicle to pull me out of sticky situations!

    Thanks...

I don't know where in the Tankwa you will stay, but here is the options:

Route 1 (the boring route with a very nice finish)

    N1
    R 354
and then down into the Tankwa with the Ouberg Pass or the Gannaga Pass

    Route 2

    Merweville
    Sutherland
and then down into the Tankwa with the Ouberg Pass or the Gannaga Pass

    Route 3 (boring)
    N1
    R 46
    R 355

Route 4 (the scenic and obvious longer route)
    Swartberg Pass
    Kruisrivier/Nelsrivier
    Calitzdorp
    Zoar
    R 323 Seweweekspoort
    Laingsburg
and then the rest of Route 2 or 3

I will not recommend the Old Postal Route from Tankwa to Cederberg for a single vehicle, unless you are adventurous, although it is a fairly easy and very scenic route, it is seldom travelled and you might wait a few days for a car to pass, should you experience a problem.

So I will suggest going down the R 355 to just south of the Tankwa Padstal, then go via Katbakkies and Skittery Passes to the R 303 and then north into the Cederberg.

I have done all the above routes, will gladly answer questions.
