Default What to replace a LED Light Bar with

    Hi All,

There has been a lot of good debate on the other thread titled Spotlights Banned and well I guess there is no debate, Centre mounted light bars are not legal and lights without the "E" Mark are also not legal.

Now I have a 120W LED Light bar, I paid R1200 for it a couple years ago and the few times I drive tuna in town, it is off. Please don't murder me.

What would you as the community recommend as replacement spots?

Let's please try stay on topic.

I am looking for some good recommendations that fit into these boxes:
    1. Will illuminate the of the side of the road (the reason I have a light bar in the first place)
    2. Will give similar distance or more (Lightbars apparently don't give distance, mine seems ok?)
    3. Won't utterly destroy the bank account

Thanks All, I look forward to the recommendations.
    - Kyle

Can't help you with a recommendation, but traffic cops around here don't seem to be much bothered about a lightbar being legal or not, as long as it is connected to brights only and on a separate switch as well. The stopped both me and my son in a roadblock (separate areas / separate roadblocks) and that was the message we both got.

the pencil and driving beams are ECE approved, not the other two. Not sure if this is also acceptable but it's the approval HELLA states for their lights complying to regulations for road use. Only some lights in their range are ECE approved, and if you look closely to what lights they are it makes sense that this is the approval you're looking for.

Certified lights are always going to cost a lot more than the cheap stuff...
Also saw as mentioned that the Extreme lights night raiders also have the e1 approval...

From what you're all saying, the 70W nightraiders are the ones to go for... now for some saving

Re my headlights - the dims have the standard HB3 or HB4 (one is dim, the other the bright i can't remember which way round it is). The brights when I replaced them recently (one blew), I used another one that was legal (60W or whatever) but they were much brighter but I cannot remember the brand

I am happy with the distance, I don't mind more. My worry is peripheral lighting for things that hide on the side of the road.

Extreme lights have been amazing in their response, I think the 70W nightraiders are the ones to go for.

My other choice where these but they are more expensive and the bulbs are R1000 each... eina

    So some saving needed....

I have these fitted on my Fortuner and are really happy with them. My brother brought them from the US. Paid about R500 end of last year.

    Budget?

I have experience with Lightforce Stryker, and Hella Luminator X, and can absolutely recommend either.
On the Disco I had 4 Hella's, with the outside two slightly angled outwards.

Years ago when a couple of our EC forum members raced through with our 4X4’s to help with the raging fires in St Fancis; Dirk switched his Hella Luminators on while we were driving there. I thought some alien craft was landing somewhere because everything lit up brightly. I did not even need my headlights.

If I had the money I would definitely go for the Hella Luminator HID’s.

True. Also have experience with them. Always remind me of the “arc”-type illumination used in drive-in theatres. But being HID - they have that slowish ignition - especially from “cold boot”. And pricey. If you study the Hella catalogue nicely - the middle size seems to give the best sideways illumination. But given the guidelines of the OP - the mentioned Nightraiders may be best? But I have no experience of them.

Stood in Midas a couple of days ago. They have a single LED spotlight with the "E " mark on demo. Switched it on and was blown away by the light coming out of it.
Midas price is far better than the link below. Just posted it to show the lights and the certification codes.
This will be added to the Jeep in due course....
