Default Pajero Sport vs Gen4 Pajero Exceed

    Hi guys

After long contemplation and consideration on what route to take I finally decided to trade my 2011 Pajero Sport 3.2DiD for a 2015 Pajero 3.2DiD Exceed LWB with RDL. I do quite a lot of grade 4-5 4x4'ing and have read endless articles on offroad capabilities between the two vehicles.
I know as far as luxury, comfort, space and driving pleasure goes the Gen 4 is the better buy. I also have twins on the way so I believe the Gen 4 have more space. Just hope I can still do my weekend trails with as much ease and effortlessness as with the Paj Sport.
I would just look at raising the body a bit with either a spacer lift or proper suspension lift.
Would love to hear from you Gen 4 Pajero 4x4 trail enthusiasts.

Congrats.Thats a good upgrade.I cant comment on 4x4 ability of the sport as i cant recall ever driving with one or seen one on a proper trail. The gen4 can do the bits but not sure about grade5 especially without damage. For the rest the gen4 is great and when you get to know how to use the traction control properly it is capable

Yes have done some nail-biting, butt-clenching obstacles with the Paj Sport.

Then you DEFINITELY need a lift on the Gen4! Good luck.

I am no trail entusiast but suspect the Sport will be more nimble when it comes to the tight stuff. Drove behind one today and it doesn't seem as wide as a Pajero.

A grade 5 obstacle means you are 99% guaranteed of vehicle damage and a grade 4 is where you may need both rear and front lockers.

I suspect your trails are probably Grade 3 at best.

Having said that, the Sport has a solid rear axle and less of a saggy “backside” rear bumper so from a clearance perspective it will certainly perform better off-road when it comes to the rough stuff.

A Gen4 needs a 50mm suspension to make it more capable (you can’t do a body lift because it’s a monocoque) because in standard guise it’s very low to the ground.

Let us know how you find it after your first trail please.

That's not much Simon, it appears to be more but the Pajero is more square which will make it seem much wider I guess.

Indeed, that might also be why it looks more compact.
