My dog would love to eat my drone and watches it like a hawk, but at 20m high he looses interest completely and does his own thing.

Yet guys with whining superchargers, roaring v8s, screeching fanbelts, engines belching smoke and hysterical two stroke quads tell me i cannot watch wildlife with a drone 20m high

When my drone is 60m up in air i cannot hear it at all and at a distance of 500m it is merely a black dot in sky i cannot even see

Some drones have for example Hasselblad cameras and can zoom optically and digitally.

Even my drone camera can take vids with so much mbs that my son's laptop cannot really cope with. To see a wildlife vid and then state that drone was hassling animal is not always true, in fact this is same as to state all Landrovers leak oil or all Fortuners roll over

The other day we lanced the drone at a water point on the farm when some guinea fowl were about 10m away from the drone itself. I thought they will fly away if the drone take off. Well one one of two made a movement or what and the rest just ignored it.

If you follow an animal it will obvious start fleeing, but just flying by it will not be frightened.

The sign at the gate to the "Wild Life Area" should read: "DO NOT DISTURB THE HUMANS" and not "DO NOT DISTURB THE ANIMALS". Then I fully agree - I do NOT want to see or hear a drone in a "Wild Life Area". or rather, a National Park

Drones have their cameras to spot and find eg a missing person.

I recall an incident where an American tourist disappeared in Namibia during Dec last year. I did not hear what happened to him or whether he was found. Perhaps if 10 droners could be requested to send up their drones in all directions somebody like that could be saved

Or say a boat capsizes with 10 persons in water. A drone would be perfect to assist in pinpointing survivors to rescuers in boats

Say a droner assists and saves a life. Afterwards droner could be arrested for flying in a nogo zone. Technically this could happen

Not all droners are peeping toms and rhino poachers

Was at my favourite weekend farm this weekend. Took some pics 200m up with drone, as well as bird's eye view of horizon 200m up.

Decided now i need a mansized drone to get myself up there.
As soon as i convert pics to computer, will post same.
Unfortunately farm had huge fire last week, fortunately no damage to buildings, no animal loss

Also got that toy now. Magnificent tool.

Got a vision sensor error yesterday morning. End up last night spending 3 hours to sort it. Windows were blocking the calibration process.

Rather not post your altitude and doings on a public forum. You are not allowed to fly your drone higher than the highest obstacle within a certain radius from you. This is regulations by SACAA to seperate drones from Aircraft. 40m above ground level is the highest you can fly your drone with a drone license and without a special rating to fly higher, you are also not allowed to fly your drone if you cannot see it all the time. I was also a bit shocked when I learned of this but if we cause incidents with aircraft traffic, drones for private use will soon be extinct in SA.

True and thanks for comment. Where i fly we do not even see a commercial airliner high up in air, never mind a low flying aircraft.

Anyway if even a small aircraft flies at my altitudes he would already be in serious trouble, either crazy or on his way down

    I have a love-hate relationship with drones.

I love that the shark spotters are using them.
I love that they are being used to fight crime.

I hate seeing them above or nearby my house.
And lastly I hate that so many youtube videos use the same boring drone shots.
    It got old very quickly.

I don’t mind drones as long as they stay within the laws. I fly helicopters for a living and had a really near miss miss with a drone which could have ended very badly.

Fire fighting helicopter and water bombers had were grounded due to people trying to get shots of a blazing fire in Australia recently. Now imagine that happened in the most recent Betty’s Bay fire...

I read about weekly near accidents in aviation where drones are the cause.

Stay within the laws and you are ok. Someone got a R50,000 fine for flying a drone over a national park as far as I heard.

No.1 rule: only fly over property you own unless you have permission from the owner.

If I understand this correctly is says not higher than 120meters??

    https://www.outdoorphoto.co.za/blog/...ng-your-drone/

    "How high and how far?

You may fly in Restricted Visual Line of Sight (R-VLOS) only, which means that you must always maintain a direct line of sight with the drone.
Max distance: The drone may fly up to 500 m away from the pilot whilst maintaining a direct line of sight.
Max height: The drone may not fly higher than 120 m (400 ft) from the ground and it must stay below the height of the highest obstacle within 300 m of the pilot."

I have flown at a height of 500m in the Tankwa Karoo, why, because it was safe, and the surrounding mountains were higher..

    Default Drones

That appears to be a mistake on the blog if not recently changed. Sa appears same as Namibia as 150ft above ground level, so around 45m.

Here is link to Sa civil aviation authority page, last line of dontís contain 150ft max level.
