Henry Catchpole has a wonderful style and chill to his reviews. I really enjoy watching his stuff. The editing for this Carfection review was also incredible. Makes me want to pack to the car and head for Namibia after lock-down.

Not stories from London office based Journo`s that does not know the difference between a 4x4 and aircon dail.

The fact that you owns an older Defender gives so much more weight to your views.

Thanks and Keep up the good work.

We only drove the 240 and P400 and only in sand so I can't tell you what it performs like on tar unfortunately. I agree that both would probably be fine but the diesel's torque offroad impressed me.

Sure, it's slightly cheaper for manufacturing but more expensive for replacement when one considers the cost of a rubber bush versus and entire metal control arm.

And poly bushes can be cast in exactly the same Shore hardness as suspension rubber, you just need to know your product.

The Shore hardness is one thing, but it does not tell you much about the damping qualities of the rubber.

The original rubber is fluid filled as well, no way you will replicate that with a cast pu part, and I have cast many many items in my life, just done some parts (not auto related) again this morning.

Why the 2020 Land Rover Defender Is Great Off-Road: https://www.motortrend.com/cars/land...atures-review/

    "... Air Suspension

Air suspensions are usually huge no-nos for off-roadingódespite the fact Land Rover has been using them for years. The issue is simple: At maximum travel (which is necessary for maximum ground clearance) the air bag becomes stiff and unwieldy, making impacts harsh, slowing you down, and increasing the odds that something goes wrong.

Where the Defender's optional air suspension differs from prior systems is that it uses multiple stages in its long-travel air suspension. This means that even at max off-road height there's still plenty of travel and impact absorption left in the suspension. The four corners of the air suspension are also cross-linked. This means that when one corner of the air suspension has fully compressed, it pushes the air to the opposite side of the truck, pushing the wheel down and back on the ground like a live axle vehicle would, thereby increasing traction. ..."

Sounds amazing, but, only time will tell if the duty cycles that pump/compressor/valve setup will hold up to constant use.

    I truly hope it does.

I think the suspension has been cross linked since the D3. Not multistage though

I notice only now all pricing has been included in the build feature on the LR website. My basic SE with leather seats will be R1.18m

Yeah, basic build on an SE to allow proper off-roading (rear diff + 18" wheels) works out to R1.18-1.2m: https://build.landrover/5D873444
