The new 90 will be my daily with the D4 V8 getting some rest.

The PEV (plug in Hybrid) will be 1st prize but they are not on the SA list yet ... I can charge at home and office.

Thus tempted to get the 90 with the P300 lowest spec at under R1m to test the new model and the 2l turbo petrol with the view to trade-up if all goes 100% to the PEV

Eish ... not easy choices but do feel lucky that I can make them

I also think the P300 is the best motor. What is the difference between PEV and MHEV setup? I think they both have batteries but not sure about how they work.

It sounds like that selection of preludes and fugues by JS Bach titled:

The Well-Tempered Clavier - which at the time was the name for basically any keyboard - Warrior.

I honestly have no idea why you're adding your 2c worth but I'll accept it at that value because that's about as much as I can expect.

Sorry for contributing to the off topic but the word "warrior" never came into the translation of either set of Bach's fugues and preludes as far as I can remember. Clavier was certainly a term used for instruments that had a keyboard but no mention of warrior, unless of course thats you interpretation for instrument?

Anyway lets not bore everyone with this stuff. Im being light hearted with Jelo, and he is being tempered/restrained, which i respect, so no need to start anything.

Apologies again for the off topic post.

Seems JLR are suspending production at their Slovakian factory which is where the new Defender is being manufactured. I assume this will result in some delivery delays?

PHEV can be charged and drive on pure electric for about 40km
the MHEV can’t drive on electric only.

Thus with my commute to office at 1km this is great option

MHEV is mild hybrid 48V system. Recharges with deceleration. Electric motor can help in full blast acceleration - or possibly may be tuned by the display screen algorithms. Supercharger probably also gets its power from this battery.

Curious as to why you think the P300 is the best choice? With the MHEV Land Rover actually quote better fuel economy for the P400 (9.9l/ 100km vs 10.2l/ 100km). So the P400 is more powerful, has more torque and is more efficient. Other than price is there a downside to the P400 I haven't considered?

A premium product needs a premium motor. If money were not the factor, P400 is the best motor hands down. At least until we have a 6-cylinder diesel.

Once tested the Jaguar e-Pace with the P300 engine - lovely smooth and powerful but then also for a lighter vehicle.

Velar weighs about 1.8 tons and its fuel consumption with said engine is mentioned here:

    https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/land-rover/range-rover-velar/20-p300-r-dynamic-hse-4dr-auto/first-drive

New L663 Defender weighs 2.3 tons and would probably have poorer fuel consumption.

So P400 will probably be better - this may only be seen once proper road tests and consumption figures become available. And may prove important once resale value comes into play.

Bruce by the looks of it in the videos (the hose and connectors at least), it looks identical to my ARB compressor.

I must say that the discussion here, although I dont agree with everything being said, as well as whats happening in the world, is making me reassess my decision (thank you).........I have however done another final build and sent it in about an hour ago......(this can be done online with pricing now if anyone is interested). There is a possible buyer for my D5 already, so I guess the deciding factor will be based on delivery date.

My 3 girls and I are tie vote, 2 to 2. So maybe I should ask the forum..... What would you prefer to travel Southern Africa in? (without brand knocking, bringing in other brands, talking about old vs new etc) this is the choice. (i think i know the answer)
Id buy the Defender without a doubt. It's in your blood Bruce . Plus, i think your D5 might plummet in value in the next year as many offload them once they see the new Defender driving the streets of the Sandton.

Agree. L663 is a looker. Spoke to some of the drivers/instructors at Walvis Bay before them returning to UK: One instructor’s comment: he would take the Defender above the D5 - especially when off-road comes into play. Then he would also take the most basic “S” model with D240 engine - which has 2 twin-scroll turbo’s and impressive kW and Nm figures. And he still has some previous LR vehicles at home in the UK. And in the new one - the battery is under the driver seat.

You right......sorry let me explain what I meant.... it may not be the best motor but for over R100k less than the 6 cylinder I think it’s a better option.
