Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA): in other words, you can add bits or remove bits to the chassis to make it shorter or longer.

Another point of failure. I hope they didn't use the same bunch that designed the TDV6 crank.............

This could be great, something that looks like a Defender but with quality components, engines that work and seals that seal!

I bet they will be expensive tho'...

"entry-level versions are unlikely to come in at much under 40,000, while high-end models which will be significantly more luxurious and powerful are set to cost in excess of 70,000."

Do the sums, chaps, then add import duties.............

R800k to R1.4m BEFORE the government takes their bit. So much for "They absolutely have to price it in line with the top end Fortuners and Everests, ie R700k odd."

As far as I know, new imports will attract a 30% ad valorem duty from 1 April.

So those two numbers there will then be:

    R1.04m to R1.82m. Before VAT.

I see it then competing with the G Wagon and not the likes of a Wrangler, cruiser etc. Im out then unfortunately unless they retain classic LR resale value

Land Rover should have just let the Defender name die off. Nothing will be able to follow in the previous ones footsteps.

The new suzuki jimny is gonna be the next Defender I reckon. Simple, "cheap", and I bet the clever people will make it highly customizable.

Maybe, but only for small thin people.

I say the LC70 series is the New defender. Pickup, double-cab and station wagon versions, TICK; common robust platform, TICK; plenty of spares and aftermarket options, TICK; dealers across the country and continent, TICK; various engine options, TICK.

I agree with you 100%, but it must be seriously painful for you to admit that.

I'm actually brand agnostic. I relate to certain vehicles more than others, but I've owned a broad selection of vehicles in my life.

    Even a couple of Fords.............

That's why I find people who are brand fixated to be really weird.

Make that 2 of us. Oh wait, i once had a shattered fan that trashed the radiator on my 110 V8 (done 150k just in Africa) from driving through the Kwai with a too hot engine. Must've been a bad quality radiator; it's never the driver.

I actually thought "brand agnostic" from your previous mail was pretty good..
