The price just like all new Land Rovers is depending on what boxes you tick is the price you pay, So if you choose the bare bones version you will probably find it will be cheaper than most competitive cars on the market. And you will still have the most advanced and capable 4x4 ever produced in the world.

Oh man, this is all just so wrong on so many levels.
What the world will get, is another crap electronic, plastic, "modular", same-platform-and-engines-as-rest-of-range window dresser.
It'll be good off-road, yeah. But it'll be like a Discovery 3 or 4 - one hard outing, and it has to spend an expensive week in the shop.

Funny.. the people I know that drives and uses them seem to be doing something really wrong as theirs never need expensive weeks in shops after hard outings.

Nevertheless.. the thing hasnt been launched yet.. so lets rather wait and see because all we now do is speculate about something we know little about

I know this is off topic but the Bollinger B1 is going to be a game changer in terms of serious off roaders.

Land Rover SA in conjunction with a game reserve built several all-electric Defenders for game viewing several years ago already. LONG BEFORE Bollinger.

In fact, with today's quick charge deep cycle batteries and more efficient electric motors, I reckon it is easily within a DIY budget.

Yes I know about the game viewers. There are also a few fully electric defenders built by Land rover doing jobs around the UK, I suspect they are using them for research purposes. I also think there is a chance the new defender will eventually have an electric drive train option or at least a hybrid option.

there is a sa company (Freedomone) that offers electric conversions on defenders at the moment.

    from https://www.motorauthority.com/news/...igned-defender

Land Rover is in the process of redesigning its Defender after the previous model ceased production in 2016 following a run that lasted more than three decades.

It was thought the new Defender would ride on the modular platform known as the Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) found in the Discovery and Range Rover models.

However, Autocar reported on Monday that the new Defender will in fact be the first model to ride on a new modular platform called the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA), which will eventually replace the PLA platform.

The MLA platform is said to be a highly flexible design that could potentially underpin most models from Land Rover as well as sister brand Jaguar by the middle of the next decade, including plug-in hybrid and pure electric ones.

The decision to adopt the MLA platform may explain the significant delay in the development of the new Defender. Recall, the tough-as-nails SUV was originally due around 2015.

Interestingly, Autocar also reported that production of the new Defender will take place at Land Rover's new plant in Slovakia starting in 2020, instead of the nameplate's traditional home of Solihull in the United Kingdom. The Discovery has already been confirmed for the Slovakian plant, which becomes operational late this year.

Moving Defender production will help free up capacity at the crowded Solihull plant for new, more premium models, one of which will be a Jaguar J-Pace SUV. There's also plans for an Audi Allroad-style “Road Rover,” though this model could still be canceled depending on market conditions, per Autocar.
