    The web is full of pics of the Hardtop commercial version to be realesed later this year, I see it has got back doors, no 2nd and 3rd row seats which means it is VAT REFUNDABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

    Guess which version I will buy, and fit an after market seat and windows.

    I'm a bit confused by the last pic.
    Unless they changed the rear of the vehicle, that's a pretty narrow pallet on the forklift.
    Photos below are of a 'normal' pallet in a D4 and an attempt to fit it into the new Defender...it only goes in at an angle.

    It the same like my Transporter , same as the Kombi , Transporter is a commercial version of the Kombi, therfore my double cab is VAT refundable, just about the only D/C that is in SA
    Its underpinning , power train etc exactly like the Caravelle version, no diffrence.

    I have to state that this thing has turned out to be stupidly expensive... Really just sad. Landrover and Jeep, must have the same market annalists.

    On the license disk of the commercial unit it states 2 passengers. If you fit seats that has not been homologated for use as a passenger vehicle you are in the same trouble as the taxis that were converted from panel vans to passenger vehicles. They got into accidents and the whole seat tore out of the floor because there were no proper hard points for seat mountings.

    Koos Best wants to fit rear seats, which would be illegal, unless he goes through some process of certification, which is probably not worth the effort.

    Yes it's too expensive indeed. I hope they got their market assessment right. Pity that the 3rd row is unusable, hence making the Discovery still relevant. I think they did this on purpose. There seemed to be enough space back there to perfect the 3rd row.

    What is expensive?

    When will these be hitting the road?
    I'm in CapeTown and LR are huge around and I haven't seen a single new Defender on the road yet.

    I have lost track of this thread - I'm not following it religiously anymore due to disappointment (and probably envy), so this question may have been asked previously:

    If the commercial version is only licensed to carry two people and if you may not fit seats - why weren't the rear (passenger) doors removed?

    Probably ease of loading. Also maybe easier to have only one body type on the assembly line.
