Calling it a Defender is purely a marketing strategy.

I used to say that I like it... not so sure anymore?

    Underwhelming...

The Grenadier on the other hand, that's exciting.
For some reason, over the last few weeks when the reviews from Nam came in, I have been patiently looking at D4s and admiring them, and looking at the new defender and also admiring it, but for some very strange reason, the D4 is somehow starting to even look much more handsome after looking at these defender reviews.

Of course it has many nice things over the D4. It can cruise at off-road height to 80km/h, it has better standard ground clearance, and is lighter. Also interior has better tech.

Yes I still can't get over the thought that "upgrading" from the D4 is not so much worth it.

Very much on the penny , the only drawback the D4 had , was the cranky ness . The new Devender is the perfect upgrade

Ah please gents, you are all sounding like kromyota lowlux/grand looser drivers who secretly yearns to own a Land Rover in any form. Just admit that you want one and are just shite scared someone might think less of you as you are "spitting" on the Defender name. Same shite as when they launched the Disco 3. Everyone said they made a mistake/it's ugly/not capable blah blah blah...... compared to a Disco 2. Getting a little bored with the whole love/hate thing.

I would love to own one even though it will be purely to rub it in the face of everyone who doesn't have one yet.

Exactly. And I will bet that there is no way that a stock previous generation Defender will be anywhere near as capable as the new one

But a stock previous gen Defender with R100k of extras will still be a 3rd of the price and kick its ass.

Hmmm, maybe it's not that adversely affected since the L663 has two-stage air suspension?

As with any other , second hand is cheaper than new . Bet I can spend R100k on old jeep Toyota etc and knock the socks of the new , but who the hell wants to drive around in a 19 voertsek car if you can afford better

Articulation is overrated , modern 4x4s need traction on only one wheel at a time
