Default Clutch plate lifetime- depends on how you drive

Clutch pedal became a bit stiff and I decided to have the clutch- and pressure plate replaced while the Fortuner is in for a new cambelt. The picture shows the wear over 440 000 km. The disc pad with the worst wear still had 3 mm left, also the originals.

Clutch pedal is a lot lighter now!

Well done. I can't remember when last I've had to replace a clutch, I think the last one was on a dodgy 1400 Nissan that I bought many years ago.

I can't understand how some people kill a clutch in 150,000kms.

Got your moneys worth out of that one, I also never changed a clutch, been a passenger often and cant believe how many people either ride the clutch or use the pedal as a foot rest

I am about to change another one on my Amarok. The clutch is actually fine, but the dual mass flywheel is the part that fails in my case.

I generally donít ever touch the accelerator until my clutch is complete released and never sit on it.

The last clutch I changed was on my wifeís verso. What am utterly miserable job and one that would forever discourage you from riding the clutch.

I think very few kids these days have been under a car and actually seen what a clutch is and how it works. Mine have helped me do two and know not to ride it as they know what it is now.

When I was a youngster we murdered our cars. Hell for leather like a bat out of hell off every stop street and robot, and the price to pay was a clutch ever so often and of course tyres. And then I grew up. With my previous Fortuner I did more than 70 thousand kilometers towing a caravan and upon selling the car the original clutch was still perfect.
Amazing how the need to hurry up seems to disappear as you grow older. Why rush? You have the hole day to get there, and getting there early, what do you want to do with the few extra minutes?
