Default Amarok V6 Manual or Auto

    Would you rather buy a V6 Manual 6speed 4motion (with low range) or a V6 Auto 8speed 4Motion Amarok?

EDIT: I've added a poll to vote. You can also vote with a comment and maybe give a reason why...

What would you use it for ? If 90% off road and 10 % on road the manual with low range. Otherwise the auto , and its so good off road when you do go off road , you will not really miss low range

The auto, because it's permanent 4WD and because it will do 99% of what people want to do.

And for the one time anyone needs to reverse a heavy off road caravan up Baboons Pass, there is Henris.

I voted auto, because that will be perfect for my requirements. That does not mean a manual will not be a fantastic machine when you need to recover things like Unimogs.

Speaking from some experience on having the same V6 3.0TDI engines in two different configurations at the same time I often compare.
One being a A4 3.0TDI Manual and the other the Touareg 3.0TDI Auto I can say I'd much rather prefer the Amarok V6 in an Auto for day to day driving.
It's just so seamless compared to driving the manual. The manual is great fun and feels much more lively (due to less weight also obviously), but the DMF clutch can get quite heavy in traffic.
The only issue I would have against the auto is the slush box power(efficiency) loss...

Remember modern day autos go into torque converter lockup from 4th gear onwards. So you don't have torque converter slip anymore so basically none of that old age power loss stories anymore.
Don't compare modern day (say 2005 onwards) auto boxes with the stuff from yore.

So Albert, when is the manual launching? And what are the specs and prices? I assume you have some inside info?

Oh, and when will the 190kw auto version be available here?

The ZF box in the Auto is the best in class by some way, there is no disputing that !! I have one and it's brilliant for an Auto box BUT I prefer driving a manual because then I am in control !! I like driving !! I don't want's to sit there and get transported from place to place as easily as possible. I want to drive, change gear's with a lever, operate the clutch and throttle skilfully to get the best out of the vehicle !! I also want NO slip from a TC because the efficiency loss irritates me !! I want Low range when I reverse my trailer and when negotiating slow rocky climb's and I want 1st gear Low range when descending a steep downhill axel twister !! ( and no the downhill decent control is not the same ) SO I voted Manual and if they do one day sell them here is RSA I will probably buy one. The Amarok V6 Manual has IMHO the potential to become a legendry Bakkie in place's like RSA, Aus and South America !! Just my 2 cent's worth !!

Your assumption may be right yes...

No launch date for the manual, so no specs and no pricing...

We will have to wait and see about the 190kw version

I am a save the manual type of guy and to be honest I would probably go manual v6 but I think VW may keep the lower spec power on the manual and only do the 190kw in Auto, if that's the case the power trumps the need to row gears myself.

There must be a good reason why they don't consider LR for the Auto, it would be the ultimate DC if it was available - even without LR it's close.

I seriously don't know why they don't. Maybe space in the ladder frame? The transfer case and auto box combo in the Treg is quite big

I can only assume it must be something like that. Pity, but maybe it will be available in Amarok 2.

I suspect safety. V6 power to rear wheels only below an empty bak may not do too well in the moose test.
