Default Planning a MTB trip from PTA to CPT

    Good day,

Im in the proccess of planning a bike ride from PTA to CPT over December...which will not be time limited but rather a adventurious trip.

Do u guys have any tips as which roads to take and where to sleep over? The ride would be preferably less than 100ks a day a bit more or less? Also road preferences should be gravel etc...

Can u give some pointers so i can start my plan :-)

    Thanks!

I would have a look at the Munga race route, at least it gets you from Bloemfontein to Wellington mostly on gravel roads but beware you will have to adjust this route because there are sections that traverse private property and you won't have the permission to do so.

In the latest Weg Ry & Sleep (#26) - there is a route sidestepping the N1 (mostly gravel) from Gauteng to Cape Town. Maybe use that as a base route and plan your trip around that?

Yes, all downhill. Not a single climb to do.

I strongly suggest you have a chase vehicle. MTB riders are considered easy prey these days, the criminals have realised that you're often riding a very expensive bicycle.

    Be alert, be safe.

Why not start a crowd funding here for petrol / diesel, then you dont have to pedal with a martelpyp
