    Default Biodiesel and D2 TD5 ?

Has anybody used Biodiesel in their D2 TD5 and has it worked ?

With rising fuel costs I'm looking at alternatives, and also going green in the process

I would not put any bio fuel in any of my vehicles .One of my customers make the stuff and tried to sell me some .Had the bio fuel tested by Wear check wow no surprise there the particle count went off their machine .There are too many cow boys out there that think they can make the stuff and become millionaires over night .There is a proper process to make it and if you take short cut you going to ruin somebody's injectors and pump in no time .

A few years ago when I checked the price of bio it was only 70c cheaper, don't know what it is now, so was not worth the trouble and also the distance one had to go to get it in the end would not make it viable

I'm considering a horse and wagon to get around in future. At this rate R20.00/l is not far off. Somethings got to give.

In order to use bio-diesel, you have to do the following:

    1. pretty much change a lot (if not all) your diesel piping since bio-diesel is pretty aggressive vs. standard diesel,
    2. you have to make serious effort of driving "somewhere" to fill up - how far will depend on your supplier of bio-diesel,
    3. Avoid the cowboys in the bio-diesel supply chain.

Considering the above, number three alone is enough to kill the complete idea. IMHO

Then, considering the risks involved due to one / two or 20 tanks of sub-standard diesel?

    New injectors,
    New diesel pump,
Stranded somewhere in the sticks - tow in service, repairs ...

Dunno. The risk does not equal the reward.

Not one person using it and getting a result of any kind ?

I haven't looked at Biodiesel for years and years (even made some way back when in a small personal use capacity) and kind of expected the industry to have matured a bit by now, especially with the way fuel prices are going.

Solved, I'm getting wholesale diesel through one of my clients, saving money and no missioning with Biodiesel issues.

Obviously only applies to local filling up, but thats a good savings as is, over a R1/L

Busy investigating buying at even greater discounts, see how that goes.

Aside from the quality issues in Bio Diesel, I have heard it's not advised for common rail engines.

I have used Jet A-1 before, but that was an old type engine with mechanical injection and with a quart
of engine oil added for lube. We had an old Ford tractor for towing the machines out the hangar and it ran
on daily fuel drains for over 20 years with no issues. Full tank and half a tin of Mobil Jet-II oil, and Bob's your uncle.

I would also advise against it for your Td5, I can get it too, and have resisted the temptation so far.

Read this thread a year or two back when I started out on the Biodiesel path.

Thought I would reply now I have some experience on the subject.
Been running my Disco 2 Td5 for close on 18 months now on Biodiesel only, apart from the occasional switch to Petro diesel when I have been away from home on trips and cant refill with BD.

I started out on 50/50 mix, then moved to 75/25 and on to 100%.
No issues experienced apart from a filler pipe on the fuel tank which has begun leaking a little.

Engine runs fine with little to no smoke and not noticeably down on power or economy.

very much worth it in my opinion.
