    Default Replacement front bumper

    Good evening All.

Went on a 4x4 course over the weekend and in the sand section bottomed out with the front bumper on a hard sandy patch. Bumper tore, so need to replace.

Now the question, stay original, or go aftermarket? Are there any serious weight concerns to take note off? Not keen on a too aggressive looking unit, if changing from stock.

Btw, I have the 2.0 auto 4motion dubblecab, 2017 model.

Thanks for the opinions in advance!

Hi, a great option for an aftermarket bumper is one made by Russian company, called Rival 4x4 accessories, https://rival4x4.com/en/. A company called Lobiz 4x4, http://lobiz4x4.co.za can assist for sure, chat to Jaco. Excellent fitment centre, with attention to detail and expertise. Jaco will advise you.

The bumper is made in 6mm aluminium, by hand with great finish and welding. Light, durable, winch plate, and LED fogs. It also looks great, and unique, and is airbag compliant. I have their products fitted to my Ranger, and very pleased with their attention to details on build and quality. I immediately got a much better approach angle. I also had fitted their bash plate, rear bumper, and busy testing their roof rack.

Thanks for the replies...does the front suspension need upgrading with any of these?

The front replacements I think will cost you a lot more than the stock.

Rhino also makes a nice looking front replacement, but at R30k I think...
What part of your bumper actually got damaged?
The first models you had an integrated grill, bumper and lower grill. After 2013 or sometime they seperated it in three different parts, so you might only need to replace one.
Do you have a cost yet on the what the stock replacement will be?

I would just fit the standard v6 coils if youíre not specifically looking for a susp upgrade.

They will be in the region of R4500 for the two springs

If you are in Somerset West why not go and speak to Ryno at African Offroad 4x4?

He makes nice looking bumpers at a good price and he can customize it as you wish. He takes the time to align them to your frame, not like the other pre-made nonsense that gets bent to hell just to make it fit...

Also worth giving Mark @ Maniac 4x4 a call. He knows a thing or two about steel work on 4x4s. Especially when you fit for function. Most Jeep guys in Cape Town won't take their vehicles anywhere else. There is also a pretty recent Landy build thread on here somewhere. Very nice.
Google for the website. They do some really pretty stuff.

It is the bottom and middle area. The hatch for the recovery point was torn and the little plate fitting in there damaged beyond repair. As far as I can see, the whole silver area is one piece, with the black inserts being the other parts. Still waiting on insurance to get back to me, have been to the panel beaters.

Maniac quoted me a good price for a replacement bumper, but feel strongly about staying original, if it means I need to upgrade suspension as well.

Rhino is about one of the only replacements I would personally fit. Maybe the kalahari bumper from seikel. Donít like the look of the other ones.

Yes the silver part should be one piece. My guess is around R15k - R20k if done through panelbeaters if itís only the bumper.

    Still 10 - 15k short of a new rhino.

Just had a look now, my quote from opposite lock for the evolution front bumper came to R34k.
Rival wonít be much cheaper I think.

Seikel is 20 000.00. Also the only VW approved aftermarket bumper but stand corrected on this.

To me the Rival bumper is by far the best looking.

I was looking into suspension as I recently fitted a winch - stock front end, no aftermarket bumper.
I found a pair of +50kg springs from Ironman, but so far have not seen the need to fit.
If it starts to look saggy then I will co wider that. Was about 3.5k for the springs.

Thanks for all the information, really appreciate it. Got the quote back, job is R20k, bumper "only" R7k ex VAT, so side fender covers, R1.1k each, then all need to be painted, so R9300 ex VAT parts, R1800 labour and R6200 for painting, total R17500 ex VAT.

Will go with the stock replacement, if a next time happens, will consider the replacement options.
