    Default Shredded water pump

    Hi All

It's been a while since I posted but I have run into a problem.

My Defender 300TDI water pump bearing collapsed and I spent the weekend stripping the front and replaced the timing belt while everything was off. (A lot simpler than I thought!)

Anyway, when I removed the water pump, low and behold, it had no blades on it.
Luckily I was able to fish them out of the passage behind the water pump largely intact. Unfortunately, the remaining hub on the pump is a bit buggered and I am unable to match up the broken blades with the hub.

I suspect there are some small bits that managed to escape and are now sitting somewhere in the block. I don't imagine they could have gotten far as the pump ceased being a pump when the blades broke off.

I know there is a drain plug below the turbo somewhere, would it be possible the bits could be flushed out via this drain?

    Thanks

I'd try the drain plug, but also remove both radiator hoses and use a high pressure water source to try and dislodge the little pieces.
