    If I may scare you

I have just finalized a Post Retirement Medical Aid valuation. You know, that benefit where the company pays a portion of the MA premium in your retirement. The present value of that liability (that need to be recorded on their balance sheet) amounts to N$ 39 million. However, that liability escalates to N$ 150 million in 2018 (10 years)

And this is for only +- 100 employees!!!!
You did not scare me. Just convinced me to drink more this weekend.

On your first point, makes a lot of sense. We work on the exact same principle when calculating the budget for the warranty and service plans on new vehicles. Warranty is purely driven by expense. Vehicles with a lot of expenses are paid for by vehicles that are not costing a lot of money. The idea is to break even with warranty. Similar argument for maintenance plans.

What would these figures look like without the likes of a Vitality, aiming at increasing fitness/health levels?

    Thanks for posting Roy,

Even though i'm not with discovery I will certainly compare this with medihelp when they release theirs (like every year)
Let's not shoot the messenger, but agree with others on cost of living each year increasing with double figures while salaries at best increase with a mere 5% as that is the figure for inflation claimed.

Less people will be able to afford medical aid, but I will keep sacrificing other stuff until I can no more to keep decent hospital cover for the family

Thanks Roy, you were most helpful in the past too.
Sadly I had a "manager" but had no means to record our meeting.
So far nearly 400 emails have been sent and recieved and my case is now with the Ombud.

Great news is the the Oncology benefit has been increased to make provision for new high tech drugs available on the market.

For more specific info you can PM me if necessary.

Thanks Roy for the info. Even though you probably knew you would get these kind of responses.

Yes I hate medical aids - but I am thankful that I can belong to one. And that doesnt mean I want to drinking afternoon tea with Discovery.

    So you want something back?

How about I take you lunch one day next week?

Should swap them around a bit
The bikes daily running costs will be allot lower than keeping oil in the discovery during those drives

    Veneficus,

Actually use my bike a lot during the week, no traffic or parking problems in and around Gauteng

We've had good service from them in the past.

SWAMBO changed jobs so we took the opportunity to go to CAMAF (closed fund) which has also only been good so far.

When i was 25, I wanted to move to Discovery from my parents' fund. I had no issues whatsoever, fit as a fiddle. Been on my parents' fund since birth. Discovery was (still is) the preferred fund at my work, so they do the deduction straight from salary. So it was the obvious choice.

Low and behold, Discovery will enforce a general 3 month WP if I join them. Everyone tells me it should not be so, including our medical aid broker at work. Emails back and forth, same response. 3 month waiting period, take it or leave it.

So I left it and joined Bestmed. Received nothing but good support from them (no real health issues except for one operation - a pin inserted in my toe in 2016 which was covered fully - I hasd to pay R95.60 to the hospital and that was it). If we ever cannot be with CAMAF any longer (if SWAMBO moves jobs), I will go back to Bestmed.

    Hehehehe
    I agree
    I love my car

But a bike is so much better especially if you live in area with bad traffic

    (Not always cheaper though)
