    Default From 265 70 17 to 265 65 17 FJ Cruiser

    Hi tyre bofs ,
    a little advise please ......
I have an Fj cruiser that came with Hi Fly tyres in the standard size of 265 .70 x 17 .
They look great but the last few thousand kís they have become very noisy , Iím told that this is quite normal for these Chinese tyres ?
so ... in the market for another set of all terrains that are dead quiet 🤫
now my dilemma ....... 265 70 is a very odd size and expensive
Tiger Wheel and Tyre have a special on Hankook Dynapro AT-m RF10 in size 265 65 x 17 apparantly 26 mm smaller than standard 70ís ? R 2295 per tyre + a 90 000 km mileage warranty !!! versus General grabbers at R 2495 per tyre ,also lead to believe Hankooks are in the same premium league as bf Goodrichís at R 4164 per tyre ?
Iím concerned that they will alter my gear ratios and fuel consumption or am I making mountains out of molehills

    HELP

Those Hankooks are great. Quiet, grips well, lasts long. Sidewall a bit thin but not that much worse than most AT choices.

The minor profile difference won't be an issue. Your speedo will over read a tiny bit more, your odometer will suggest you service your vehicle slightly sooner than necessary, and the FJ might feel a bit more lively.

It will also be ever so slightly lower to the ground. To uhm, some, that's an advantage

    I'd say do it.

Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Just make sure that the Hankooks from TWT are LT spec. Had non LT Hankooks ( also 265/65R17 ) on my JK and lost 3 tyres due to side wall damage within 2000km ( separate incidents) all on ďmildĒ off-roading.

For road use use and sand probably okay.

265/65/17 is 31" and 265/70/17 is 32" would the FJ not over rev by going smaller?

Didnít notice much difference going down from 70 profile to 65 even with auto tranny.

But to repeat....had an expensive lesson using non LT Hankook Dynaproís.

Now running GY Adventure 265/70R17 and very happy with performance

I wouldn't do it, but that's just me. In my case I'd go for 285/70/17.

265/70/17 is a popular and available tyre size these days. And for the same money you could just as well stick the OEM spec Dunlop tyres on again.

I've seen a few secondhand FJ's on the market with the size tyre you're thinking of due to price, but I strongly suspect that they were city slickers and didnt care too much. Also know that some non Toyota dealers do this to save money.

With 265/65/17, you'd certainly be able to give the neighborhood GTI's a run for their money
